Santiago.- Santiago senator Francisco Dominguez yesterday announced his bid for a presidential candidacy in the 2012 elections, declining to run for his province’s Congressional seat again in the May 16 midterm elections.
The ruling PDL party legislator said he will endorse the candidacy to the Senate of Chamber of Deputy president Julio Cesar Valentin. He said his declination aims to help Valentin, whom he called a valuable companion, begin his campaign for the Senate in the May 16 elections.
Domínguez, noted for his successful tenure as Justice Minister and for legislative initiatives, thanked the voters of Santiago province and the country for supporting him in the post, and reaffirms his commitment to work for a more just and equal society, and to build a better Dominican Republic.
Meanwhile Valentin immediately announced he’ll seek the Santiago candidacy to the Senate, in the PLD primary on January 21.

The question always becomes in situations such as these, if a good person is surrounded by those of no integrity and does nothing...What then? It is as if one is accompanied by murderers all around you and you decide to stay shut and say nothing... this is sometimes considered as aiding and abetting. What will become of a president who is "GOOD" but sees no wrong in his administration or decides to stay shut when wrong is being done? Doesn't seem as if any of these parties have done much to save this country. So have those who are members but with "integrity." There is no integrity amongst thieves.
There is no integrity for those who stand in silence and become a part of a system that has been shown to be flawed. A man of integrity would never be part of a party or system that does not work or fails its people. The motives behind the scenes then go into question as if it were just for the 'concept of the political.' Or even can be said, will this be potlics as usual?

Is this Francisco Dominguez a wealthy individual? People who are wealthy, in my opinion, need to be academically and skillfully prepared to convince congress of his ideas, economic agenda and demostrate a modicum of patriotism. They do not run for office to misappropiate state funds, but to execute, implement high ideals and a desire to be responsible for positive change benefiting the masses or underpriveleged in a given state. In turn an individual who runs for office seeking wealth is not wealthy to begin with like Trujillo and the like.

rjmathome,
I know Senator Dominguez personally. I am not a close friend or anything like that, but I have had enough contact with him in a professional setting to know he is very, very intelligent and well educated. As to his personal wealth I don't know how wealthy he is although he is not poor.
I would be highly surprised if he not a honorable man. He is definitely qualified to be president and LIE-onel Fernandez is not qualified to hold his jockstrap.
Mr. Dominguez was the Attorney General of the republic before running for Senator in Santiago. Some people suspect he quit being attorney general because of things he saw and want to get as far away as possible from being in the corrupt administration
I admire his ability and potential, however I can’t support him because he remains a member of a criminal organization masquerading as a political party THE PLD!

what does it mean to be president if your entire administration will be handpicked from previous men who were already in government? Or have been part of a system that has years and years of trouble? Or can one man come in and select people that have no previous associations or affliations with the system? Unlikely. if it were, there would still be a senate from previous ones. Still judges and lawyers and others. To clean that out so much has to be done. A president would spend his entire term focusing just on that and cleaning people out in order to rid the country of corruption. It is endemic. It can only be done through a complete cleansing or by the people accepting that it will take time. And time does not seem to be working for any president who's in office for 4 years.
From: Dominican Republic, I dislike all politicians and their afiliated parties... "I simply say it AS IT IS!!"
Josean, I can tell - you don't really know much about DR.
Probably, you were not even borned in DR. But, somewhere in the U.S. or probably made it to the U.S when you were a little boy.
The reason I say this, it's because I know what Juan Bosch, Balaguer, EL PRD and EL PRI did to our country. Especially, PRD, they did nothing but to take our land 100 years back in time, each and everytime they took on power. Deaths, drugs, extreme corruption and poverties in the streets of DR. People eating one another....our structures were totally in ruin every single one of them.
However, now we have a different Dominican who is trying to put our pride somewhat higher and he is a bad man.

so, we simply learn from the big DOG.
It happens in our Dominican case, this is only president who has really made something for the country, infrastructure, education, etc.

Vaya josean, your comments are somewhat refreshing and for me who has been away from "home" quite a while, I find it reasonably educational in terms of your references towards the PLD, being an honorable man, his role as Attorney general is quite impressive, it reminds me of Rudy Julianni, ex mayor of NYC, whom I would voted for when and if he ran for president. He too was New York State Attorney General and got rid of the mob in NY and cleaned up the city. I have no doubt to anything you uttered.
Well, while I have no knowledge of the possible candidates for the office of the presidency of Quisqueya (DR); and you claim you know this Santiago Senator Dominguez…I was very impressed with your command of the Germanic language of the British Isles, officially the language of the USA. If I were elected to be president of Quisqueya, I would bring my own staff. Every individual in public office with the former administration, must be replaced—no questions asked or explanations given. As president, I believe I have the power to fire and appoint. However, there are elected officials whom I may not be able to replace. Well, people will be appointed close to those individuals to be monitored and confirm proven honesty. They will have to prove themselves honest and qualified to do their appointed task, no room for Peter Principle. I would retire them with a six months’ severance pay. Every member of my staff must prove themselves honest and true patriotic with the ability to carry out their prearranged positions. I would also develop a system to keep tabs on every individual in the administration, by handing monthly reports to a Chief of Staff who would report directly to the president or someone assigned with power to terminate employments.
