Santo Domingo.- The weapons, an apartment, an SUV and a speedboat seized yesterday allegedly owned by the organization headed by the Puerto Rican fugitive Jose Figueroa Agosto, is just one of the cases which, including the August, 2008 execution of seven Colombians in Paya, Bani (south), have now made gangland murders routine.

The apartment seized is in the name of Cesar Osiris Garcia Coste, who the Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) says is an accomplice of Ramon Omar Antigua, shot 13 times Saturday on the Duarte highway.

Garcia was arrested May 29, 2007, together with his brother Miguel S. Garcia and their friend Joel Hernandez, with three bullet-proof vests communication gear and two 9 millimeter pistols in their vehicle.

The DNCD and the Justice Ministry say the apartment had been abandoned for 10 months, confirmed by neighbors, who affirm not ever having met the Garcia brothers, natives of central La Vega province. Investigators say the apartment is just one of the many Figueroa owns in the capital and the interior.

Yesterday several searches were conducted in the upscale and Naco and Arroyo Hondo sectors, to look for new evidence which may lead to Figueroa’s whereabouts and to other potential properties.

The DNCD says the Garcia brothers, together with Hernandez transported part of Figueroa’s drugs, supplied by Antigua.

But despite that the Garcias have a criminal record in the DNCD, neither the Antinarcotics Agency, the Police nor the Electoral Registry have any photos of their brother Cesar Osiris Garcia, the group’s alleged ringleader.

In that regard, the Presidency’s Advisor on drugs said Wednesday that people in the last government as well as the current one have prevented Figueroa’s arrest.

Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) also denounced that many narcotics traffickers who operated in Haiti have come to Dominican Republic, which in his view poses a threat for the country.

The official said the latest spate of gangland murders stem from “debt collections” in the underworld of narcotics, and in the superstructure which protects Figueroa.

yes, ambioriv, stop the puerto ricans from coming in. then, since it is a United States territory, the state department retaliates by halting Dominican entry into their lands. hmmm...

Everything stems from government corruption. If we could get a handle on that these drug dealers wouldn't have half the country's officials in their pockets and be able to do whatever they want. Their shipments would not be safe going through the country and they would not be able to freely wander around like they do now.

The only ones to blame are our own government starting with the leader who does nothing to fix this.

Well, VeronicaDR is right on point! The criminals would be greatly inhibited without RD Gov support and cooperation (military, DNCD, politicians) all of whom are enablers!

And Ambioriv, the RD Gov could restrict immigration ESPECIALLY IF THEY COULD JUSTIFY to the US (Sec. Clinton and the Obama Admin) that it is very necessary to get a handle on the the RD from being a greater failed drug state. The US would actually support this if only applied to known career criminals (as most of the key players are). This would be even more so, if the RD Gov got tough and cracked down like Saudi Arabia or China on the corrupt and used them as examples of how criminals will be treated with zero tolerance for crime.

But, we can only wish!

JD, i hope you are not suggesting that the US state department would accept this restriction on Puerto Rico. besides, the recriminations would include a severe disruption within dominican circles in Puerto Rico. think about these things.

Even though I can't stand Rudy it was brilliant what he accomplished. Broken window theory is the model to follow to fight crimes. DR doesn't need to implement carte blance on criminals police already have that but hey use it only to protect their business. What it need to be done is to clean house from the come solo jueces to the raso. Every police officer candidate will need at least an associate to take the test. Raise the salary just a little lower than the Doctors. Create an internal affair.

If the above can't be done. There is an cheaper alternative. Since la Soga is still alive (too bad they killed Cabrerita) let him train 300 soldier and teach them what to do with thugs. Then when they ready to do some damage spread them out all across DR.

hellborn, i would like you to take a few moments away from your hallucinations to explain to me just how you would effect a copmplete travel ban on Puerto Rico. i guess you forget that it is an American Commonwealth, and any international action against it does not go unnoticed by the US state department. maybe you think we could institute the ban, ande keep it a secret from Washington , DC.
help me here, hellborn, as i am nonplussed.

Mary Pelaez’s 4 houses

El Dia reports today that the District Prosecutors have confiscated 4 houses valued at more than RD$100 million, reportedly belonging to Mary Pelaez who is under arrest for asset laundering. The ‘mansions’ are located in Arroyo Hondo III, Naco and La Castellana in Santo Domingo, and Ocean One in Cabarete, Puerto Plata.
Pelaez was sent to jail for 3 months while the case is investigated. The house at La Castallana, on Calle Flerida Soriano, was reportedly purchased for RD$6 million by Sobeida Felix Morel and Mary Pelaez. It has been demolished and construction is far advanced on a building on the lot.
The District Prosecutors say that Pelaez cannot provide a credible explanation for these investments. She claims that her fortune came from the RD$35 million inheritance her father left after his murder. El Dia says that the district prosecutor noted that the certificates of deposit for the inheritance had been cancelled between 2004 and 2006.

hey dread I never said to put a travel ban to puerto rico, i said the dominican goverment needs tighter imigration laws , meaning they need to keep track of al the imigrants that live in dominican republic mainly all the colombians no offenced to colombians but almost all the drugs in he world come from colombia, so we need to keep a eye on all the imigrants that also include haitians and canadians and puerto ricans
