SANTO DOMINGO.- The Armed Forces Ministry today Thursday announced it coordinates with the United Nations the deployment of Dominican troops which will collaborate with the UN peacekeeper in Haiti (Minustah), despite concerns on the measure’s potential peril from sectors on both sides of the border.
In that regard the FFAA revealed that a delegation of the UN Military Affairs Team yesterday visited its Command Center in border town Jimaní to coordinate with the Senior Command the Dominican unit’s location, whose focus are humanitarian tasks to help the quake victims.
On January 23 Armed Forces minister Pedro Rafael Peña said a part of the Dominican troops was ready for deployment in Haiti, two days after Port-au-Prince accepted Santo Domingo’s offer of 150 soldiers on Haitian soil to protect the humanitarian corridor established between the two capitals.
At that time the entity’s spokesman said Haiti president René Préval approved the deployment of Dominican soldiers in his country, to help distribute the aid to the victims.
Martin Nesirky also noted that the 150 Dominican troops will work with the Peruvian contingent of Minustah, stationed along the Haiti side of the 370 kilometer-long border.

I have not seen DR soldiers in the UN DPKO missions in Africa or middle-east, but I know that DR is part of the UN so it's about time to let them soldiers eat some of this DSA money as military observers (MILOBS).
@Generoso
I think it will be a good thing for the soldiers man, they will come back home with some dough in their pockets. I don't remember the DSA rate but it might be something close to 5000 grand monthly plus pre-deployment and repatriation lump sum. It will also open more doors for other DR soldiers to participate in some future UN peace keeping missions.

As long as the Haitians and DRs can keep DR soldiers away from degenerate US doctors, especially degenerate doctors from Puerto Rico before whom DR soldiers are extremely servile, the presence of a DR military mission in Haiti should do too much harm.
It would be a shame if DR soldiers allowed another group of degenerate US doctors to disarm and demean DR soldiers in another Facebook scandal.

The PLD has announced its decision to nominate the director of the Public Works Supervisory Office of the Presidency, Felix Bautista for the post of senator in San Juan de la Maguana. The PLD announced that surveys show that Bautista has 60% of the support in the southwestern province.
Bautista has been linked to high-profile corruption scandals over the last few years, first for his role in the Sun Land public funds scandal and more recently when it emerged that his department had provided contract work for Mary Pelaez, now under arrest on charges of money laundering for fugitive drug trafficker Jose David Figueroa Agosto. Former district prosecutor Guillermo Moreno has called for Bautista to be investigated in the case. Senators have congressional immunity and can only be tried by the Supreme Court of Justice.

Like the METRO now the "NEW and IMPROVED" constitution is USELESS as well!
Implementing the Constitution
The Dominican Republic has a new 277-article Constitution, but it could be months or even years before all the articles can be actually implemented. The implementation of several new measures depends on the approval of new laws or changes to the present laws. These include dispositions that create the Economic and Social Council, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Electoral Court and the referendum, and that religious denominations other than the Catholic can legally celebrate marriages.

Government is lost
Former prosecutor general Virgilio Bello Rosa says that “the government is at a complete loss” when it comes to the investigations into the case of fugitive drug baron Jose David Figueroa Agosto. As reported in Listin Diario, he said it was strange that the state prosecutors did not hear about Omar Ramon Antigua Polanco’s murder for 2 days after the event. Polanco is believed to have served as operations chief for Figueroa Agosto. “Let’s hope that this changes, because if it does not change then we are heading for disaster. Corrective measures have to be put into place in this society, but we will have to wait,” he said.
As reported in Listin Diario, Bello Rosa believes that judging by the way things are going in this case, there will be impunity. “This is not about blaming any one sector. It is a problem that needs to be fixed for the sake of all Dominicans,” he said. He commented that when he was prosecutor general, he led the investigations, not the Police.

Police confiscated homicide SUV
The Police have confiscated a gray 2000 model Mitsubishi Challenger, official registration plate G059585, used by the murderers of Omar Antigua Polanco on Saturday, 30 January. The victim is described as the operations chief for fugitive drug baron Jose Figueroa Agosto. Listin Diario reports that the SUV had been stolen from engineer Elvin Sadel Estevez Lopez in Los Prados on 9 January. When confiscated by the Police it was using the official license plate OC09224. The vehicle was registered in the name of Enido Antonio Lopez Diaz. The newspaper says the authorities are trying to establish to which government institution the plate was assigned, and its authenticity.
Antigua Polanco lived at Residencial Ducado, Los Rios in Arroyo Hondo III. He was shot to death in the parking lot of the Carrefour hypermarket on the Duarte Highway.

The monetary benefits that the DR soldiers could receive is fine and dandy and a plus, but it is not a consideration weighing the advantages and disadvantages of such a move.
Consider what a media circus the hundreds of sensationalist reporters in Haiti will have with this headline:
"UN soldier from DR shoots unarmed Haitian in cold blood"
When a UN member of the Minustah does this it goes unannounced and without much flare, but heaven forbid if one of our soldiers shoots or even hurts a Haitian trying to impose order. We will never hear the end of it for millenniums, until the DR will have to give up Jimani to appease the cries for blood. To me from a military or civilian point of view is a very risky move, and the Dominican military serving there, will be severely handicapped by the previous bad blood between our two nations. Precisely the fact because those bilateral relations are improving, and we should not risk damaging the fragile DR-Haiti relationship until it matures furthe

GC,
This " 500" doesn't come from the bourgeois media. The "500" is the estimate of some "members of the Cuban [exile] group in Miami." So, the "500" comes from a group of the biggest liars in the world. Journalists in the bourgeois media say these Cuban American reactionaries in Miami cannot even document 100 defections.
Representatives of the bourgeois media discover emigration is not the same thing as defection. Pro-imperialist swine however insist that anybody who emigrates thereby defects. Over 20,000 USAs emigrated to Haiti as their permanent place of residence as of the Jan. 12 earthquake. Another 28,000 were in Haiti as tourists. Only pro-imperialist slime says 20,000 US citizens "defected" to Haiti. Thousands of USAs live permanently in Cuba, but they haven't "defected" to Cuba.

Thousands of DRs live in the USA, but they haven't "defected" to the USA.
Emigration is only sometime the same thing as defection, the latter an ideological and political act. But emigration is usually not the same thing as defection, because there are reasons other ideology that prompts people to change their place of residence ... such as higher wages and salaries, the dispersion of familty members, the lure of another countries cultural characteristics, educational desires, etc.
Only pro-imperialist swine and pro-imperialist slime identify emigration and defection.
Now even most of the Mexicans who live in the USA have defected.

oooo
Jonbonz,
The average person who emigrates to the USA from Cuba is either a Cuban American or a Cuban exile. And, under changes in US law during the Obama regime, they now go back and forth between USA and Cuba. But before Obama, they could go back and forth only once every three years because the bourgeois regime under Bush could put them in a US prison for up to 20 years and fine them up to $250,000 or both. The Cubans during Bush regime and under Obama welcome the going back and forth of the average person in the USA and in Cuba.
So, only Cuban exiles and Cuban American are average persons in the USA.

Thousands of Cubans now, under Obama, go back and forth from Cuba to the USA. About a month ago, the Obama regime decided to discourage these Cubans going back and forth by humiliating them by searching them and their luggage, as if they were terrorists.
The Cuban government publicly protested this US impediment to going back and forth by average Cuban citizens from Cuba to the USA.
In other words, the Cubans don't stop people, whether US or Cuban citizens, from going back and forth.

Issue is the following the DR has to help Haiti especially with the injured and etc but NO WAY SHAPE or FORM Should DR OPEN IT'S BORDER TO THE 80% POOR HAITIANS.
Dominican Republic is very humanitarian, however, we should NOT allowT this to happen. THe sad part is that HAITIANS continue to cross the border and dare the border agents to stop them. HAITIANS agenda is to cross ILLEGALLY to DR and when they do they have an elaborate support system of NGO's, Haitians, and other people who protect them as illegals.
DR SHOULD NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN. EL PADRE REGINO MARTINEZ SHOULD BE JAILED FOR TREASON. YOU SHOULD NOT ALLOW ILLEGAL HAITIANS TO ENTER DR.
Given the complex history of both country's the MASSIVE ILLEGAL HAITIAN migration of the last 4 years or so will be exacerbated with the EARTHQUAKE. WE NEED TO DEFEND OUR BORDERS B/C HAITI IS A THREAT TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. HAITIANS need to respect the laws of the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

jarabacoa candidly asked: "everyone is welcome in the US but why can't haitians be welcomed in the DR?"
Because the US is the world's sole bloody superpower, which have had a hand in all the miseries afflicting the countries of the third worlders that it's currently receiving (via it's multinational companies a la United Fruit), while the DR is a third world country with enough problems of its own already and which can't give itself the luxury of providing for the social outcasts of another country, specially when it has the duty of providing for the needs of its very own poor first and foremost.

Today, seven young US women who look more like models than doctors arrived at a Port au Prince hospital. Again, all of them are US citizens. Five of them were from NY and two from California. All had decided to interrupt their preparations for US medical examinations in order to pitch in with health care in Haiti. During their stay, they will have to be tough, living in tents and practicing medicine everyday and at any hour, day or night, if necessary.
All seven of the US doctors attended and finished Cuba's international medical school near Havana. In Haiti, they will practice in Cuban-administered hospitals. Their main concern is their lack of knowledge of Creole, the language of the Haitians. The Cubans will assign Haitian medical students who have interrupted their medical studies in Cuba to serve as interpreters for the seven US doctors. They say other US doctors who graduated in their med school class will soon join them in Haiti.

Que dios los cuide por esos caminos oscuros y los proteja de las pandillas de delincuentes que andan acabando con to en haiti por la falta de ley y orden.
I bet you that the anti-Dominican lobbies are salivating, for this splendid opportunity to smear our country, with a real or fabricated criminal incident.
With have much to lose and NOTHING to gain by this very dumb move, just to save face of (on his way out) Mr. Preval previous faux pas, where he stuck his foot in his mouth by saying: "Le arme Dominicain présence en Haïti n'est pas possible en ce moment".
As somewhat of a “conspiracy theorist” and my general distrust of most governments, I wonder if this is just the first step of some sort of a greater plan. Think about it.
This is likely to be a recipe for disaster.
Sending DR soldiers into Haiti is a wrong move, i know that the haitian holocaust has change the dynamics of the relationship between DR and Haiti but sending DR troops into haitian territory now, is too soon.
Es como si tu te juntaras con una ex novia tuya que no has visto en 10 años, tu no te deves tirar de cabeza el primer dia que te encontraste con ella, uno deve de preguntar donde has estado? y que has hecho ultimamente?, con quien has andado?. uno no deve de meter mano asi de repente, es peligroso. you guys get my drift?
@Generoso
It would be a shame if DR soldiers allowed another group of degenerate US doctors to disarm and demean DR soldiers in another Facebook scandal.
The REAL ENEMY continues to insult our people and destroy our nation:
PLD choose Felix Bautista for senator
Must have been great , because you are still posting mierdas.
Meaning of Utopia :sort of perfected society but unreachable.

I understand your concern with the corrupts politicians runing for office in D.R. Im concern too, but is bussiness as usual, nothing is going to change until somebody rule our country with an IRON FIST, trust me that's what we need another Trujillo without the mass killing, but moderate.
El Dominicano es como el mojon, que no coje cabeza, and the fact that we enjoy freedom and right is like leaving a 7 year old kid in a candy store by himself, you know what I mean?
My candidate is Guillermo Moreno; currently the ONLY MAN with integrity and the necessary testicular fortitude to lead our nation out of the FAILED STATE LIE-onel Fernandez and the PLD have driven it to!
MS_Jersey,
We finally agree on something!
I would love to see Senator Brito and Senator Guerro resign from the PLD and join Dr. Moreno!
The uplifting this would give to the countries moral would be remarkable and it would encourage more decent folks in the country step forward.
A modern day TRINTY if you will.
Why don't these guys just use the METRO!
My opinion is that the Boricua is probably out of the country, and if he is still in the country they don't want to catch him. That's just my take in this case.
"Belial what about the 500 Havana cabbies {Doctors} who have defected from Venezuela so far ....they will be leaving Haiti in droves soon for Miami ," GC gloats.
oooo
GC,
This " 500" doesn't come from the bourgeois media.
Generoso, have you been to Jimani? ,we lost it a long time ago...Dajabon is going quick, the border is creeping towards Santiago !
The Sky is Falling, The Sky is Falling!
Some LIGHT has been shed on the case, pardon the pun!

I you think the comments on LIE-onel Fernandez are rough on DT read the comments at the end of the article I have linked!
The people are beginning to wake up!
Thousands of USAs live in the DR but they have not "defected" to the DR.
Your most civil correspondent,

"The average person that lives in the DR from the USA goes back and forth at will. The average person that immigrates to the USA from Cuba wishes he could. That is the difference. person leaving the ," jonbonz, explains the his difference between emigration and defection.
oooo
Jonbonz,
The average person who emigrates to the USA from Cuba is either a Cuban American or a Cuban exile.
In other words, the Cubans don't stop people, whether US or Cuban citizens, from going back and forth.
yeah, when the chicken grows a tooth and pigs could fly. who evere wrote about unification is really crazy. most black americans,( many who are mulattos and pure blacks), can't even get along with each other, and idiots like you expect two group of people with diffrent culture and language, sharing a small island, to get along in unification??..
GTFO here.

The US military budget alone could serve to rebuild Haiti ten times and there would still be enough money to spare, provided they take care of the management of those funds and don't let even one single penny on the sight of the haitian politicians, whose corruption make our very own ones look like glorified boy-scouts, if that is even possible.
Feel that cold air. Hell has just frozen over. I just agreed with you 1000% percent

Corruption is th e biggest problem in Haiti. Strip those (of their wealth) that intentionally keep the people in Haiti perpetual poverty. Distribution of wealth is the key to stability in any country.

Long live the US worker!
" “French, Brazilian and other officials had earlier complained about the airport’s refusal to allow their supply planes to land. A World Food Program official told The New York Times that the Americans’ priorities were out of sync, allowing too many U.S. military flights and too few aid deliveries."
“Alain Joyandet, French cooperation minister, said he had protested to Washington about the U.S. military’s management of the airport, where he said a French medical aid flight had been turned away.” (Telegraph)

18-20 million people makes biggest market in caribbean. Change is coming. Haiti just needs the investments and people that want to look out for the country and not their pockets. These differences are not real just perceived.
Misshaiti
I was taught thesame thing but Dominican people are misinformed. They are not racist just antihaitian. Remember people are people. My gfriend is DR and the stereotype is false. (you know what I mean.
