Santo Domingo.- The executive director of the civic movement Citizen Participation (PC) is concerned with what he calls the people’s blasé attitude with the constant acts of corruption involving officials in the various branches of Government.

Javier Cabreja said the countries with a true democracy deal drastically against those who misuse taxpayer money. “The problem is that corruption scandals aren’t spurring any reaction in the country and many indicate that the capacity for astonishment has been lost.”

In a phone interview with Huchi Lora on CDN Radio, Cabreja cited the Dominican legislators among corruption cases, who get numerous “perks” from the Government.

“Here we grossly surpass the things which occur in other countries and we see how senators are getting numerous funds for political cronyism and their own campaign, and that’s the type of thing which the nation must see as distorted,” he said, adding that the number of luxury vehicles which arrive through the exemptions given to the lawmakers are practices which should be condemned.

The poor baby had to go to the hospital for depression. Did he also check in while he was enjoying the fruits of his thievery?

We are not blase. We understand that there is no law that applies to anyone in the government and we are resigned to the fact that the stealing will go on forever. Or until we have a president that truly cares about the crimes of those under him. Ain't LF and sure as hell isn't going to be MVM.

Based on the entrenchment of the two major parties, how can someone else have a chance of winning?

The only thing that astonishes me is when I discover that a government official is honest and hardworking.

As you can tell, I am very rarely astonished.

We have finally found a cure for serious depression and craziness in the DR. When you the law knocks at your door, even after 15 years, you go crazy. When you are out on bail, then you get cured.
These "depressed" actors would do better in the prison hospital, they could even pretend they are Napoleon, Trujillo, or even a prison doctor as well, just until the pardon for "compassionate" reasons comes through. LOL.

The people are blasé about this is because they use it as reason to justify their own level of corruption such as theft of electricity, not paying rent, and etcectera. If the government can do it, so can I. It has sadly become part of the culture.
