Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s top diplomat on Friday announced that the Foreign Relations Ministry commission has opened a “wide investigation” into the case of the two diplomats of the Dominican embassy arrested in Caracas, when they reportedly went to the Venezuela Central Bank to verify the legitimacy of two commercial bonds, which turned out to be forged.

Carlos Morales, speaking to reporters who went to cover a meeting with UNICEF executive director Ann Veneran, said he expects a report from commission on the attempted transactions of the forged bonds, in which the Dominican diplomats took part.

In that regard, the businessman and ex politician Puro Pichardo revealed that the US$28 million in bonds which would’ve been cashed in Caracas are his property. He added that he had sent general Jose Eliseo Noble Espejo to verify the authenticity of the instruments he would sell to Colombian investors, for which Dominican ambassador Jaime Duran had assigned two officials.

The DR is scandal-land, as everyday there is a new one. The Hollywood tabloids and gossip columnists will have a field day here, and should set up shop, and make a bundle of money.
More so with the propensity of Dominicans to eat gossip up and ask for more.LOL.
I propose a guillotine to be set up in Parque Independencia, and let us start delivering some quick sharp justice for the crowds, and we could even charge admission. LOL. For one thing there will be no shortage of paying public or perpetrators.LOL.

Now this is what makes it difficult---you have a general (top of the military rank) and 2 diplomats sent by a dominican ambassador to run some errands for an ex politician who turned into a businessman, which now seems to have been an illegitimate business deal.

Hmmm. First, let's forget about the whole deal because that is already known to be corrupt. Second, why are actively working diplomats and top military officials even going to another country to run an errand for a civilian? That alone, even if it was to say hi to chavez, would be considered an abuse of power. So what this says is that obviously you can't have 2 diplomats and a top general leave the country without a lot of people knowing that they left and are going to venezuela... That's absurd. This is not a private or corporal, or 2 aides to a secretary. Some major hush hush is going on here. A lot of people were aware that these bozos were gone.

so this is the point, when you are high up on that ladder as these clowns were obviously, you can not escape out of sight without someone or a lot of people knowing where you are going. What is a general of the dominican military doing in venezuela if he is not doing military business? Everything in the military is done by orders and paperwork. the only time a military personnel has the ability to do things on his own is on vacation. So now you obviously have another few generals that know about this and gave authority and politicians who were also aware due to the diplomats acting on behalf of another top diplomat. Hilary Clinton can't just leave the US and say hey i'm going to korea to talk to some people. Hugo chavez's generals can't just come to DR and say they are coming to do business or vacation. There is no way that people should buy that there is going to be an investigation. Investigation by who? the people who sent them? goodluck.

This ongoing corruption at all levels is sad because it only feeds a handful of corrupt officals.

This “subtle comment” ….
“In that regard, the businessman and ex politician Puro Pichardo revealed that the US$28 million in bonds which would’ve been cashed in Caracas are his property…….”
Mmmmm…..
Wait for the evidence to disappear after he “re-acquires” his property (worthless forged bonds). Its like they already had a “back-up plan”
WTF over!

Sorry we have so many "lost souls" here in the DR. It will take much time. I'll be dead by then...or maybe they will kill me!

How does a Dominican politician legitimately acquire property worth $28M? How? How?? How????

OK, so let's be naive for a while and buy their story that they were just confirming legitimacy of bonds. Well, why couldn't they have done that in DR? I really suspect their sole purpose was to swindle the Venezuelans, and I hope Chavez would hang them for it. If he does, then that would be the first time I would agree with him.

This is another incident yet attesting to the deep level of corruption in present administration. We have a president who is clearly absent, at least when it comes to domestic issues; world and distant issues, particularly those with good photo opportunities, are another story. Also, he doesn't have to comment or offer opinions on these everyday issues, particularly those relating to rampant corruption and administrative ineptitude.

Someone said: we get the gov't we deserve, and I believe we have. Yes, we certainly have.

The history of this man and his dubious land dealings in the north are quite old .and he is now saying that the $28 million has nothing to do with the land on protected area when he was in government but a more recent deal he has done with columbians ..now I hope the authorities look at this new deal in relation to money washing ..I think he is into a very crooked deal.

The more that I think about this matter the more I think the explanation given by Pichardo is ludicrous ...he now claims he made the money from sales of land to Columbians which in itself suggests that it may be related to drugs but how come the payment was in Dominican bonds and of course these bonds would be dated and anyone would know when they were issued ,if they were issued .. A rather unsound explanation and I suggest Pichardo has blurted this out as the two diplomats in Venezuela have already exposed him
