Santo Domingo.- officials carried out around 1 p.m. Monday the arrest warrant against Leonel Almonte, who was transferred from the capital’s famous Otorrino Clinic to the office of sentencing judge Saulo Isabel Diaz.
Almonte, the first to fraudulently fail a major Dominican bank, denounced that the agents ripped out the IV serum prescribed by his doctors, prior to being escorted out of the medical center.
The two police agents and an Assistant prosecutor executed the warrant, while Almonte resisted, yelling “they removed the serum, they are taking me away by force.”
Almonte was transferred to the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse to Diaz’s chambers, who had previously pledged to send the convict to serve his sentence in the jail at Najayo. He went to the clinic claiming he had a depressive crisis as soon as he learned of the warrant.
Diaz had stated that the ex banker had to go to prison regardless of his health status.
Almonte, who was president the Universal Financial Group, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for swindling three depositors who pressed charges – of the thousands of the bank Universal - out of more than 80 million dollars.

I think we need to be more sensitive to the white collar criminals. About a mile east of Faro Colon there is a park that no one uses. It is covered with Legumes tree. I say build a prison out of 40 foot container in the middle. Each prisoner gets an 8 foot section. Put a composting toilet in the middle of the compound. Every day the prisoner shackled will go around the park and collect leaves and seed pods for goat feed . Then inside the prison the will feed and milk goats. That milk will be made into cheese to be distributed in the barrios to the poor.

He already scammed the deliverers of justice for 15 years, that he should have been locked up, so he is ahead of the game. If he is really crazy then maybe a self induced mercy termination would be the right thing, or to use a more PC terminology, a "final exit or checkout".
He planned and thought about evading justice for another 15 years, I guess, and never did accept that fact that the "justicia" was going to carry him kicking and screaming to the fancy hotel with bars in Najayo.

Love for my people keeps me hopeful that things would improve and we would have justice and honor and integrity and good eduction and opportunity, but that is just hope and wishful thinking. Perhaps we are doomed by geography and climate and heritage to a life of bad governments and corruption.
What makes matters worse is that we either don't want to or are unwilling to effect change. Our expectations are low and lots of credit is readily given for meaningless and grandiose projects and cheap housing, etc. I've also grown both weary and tired of nominating for president every Tom, Dick and Harry who makes even the smallest logical and reasonable political statement. This is precisely why cycle of bad governments is perpetuated.
Honestly, when I listen to some of these guys, I often surmise that they would be no better than "Mucho Loco". I know he's borderline crazy, but at least I think he is honest.
