SANTO DOMINGO. – The director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute and ex head of the Hydraulic Recourses Institute (INDRHI) on Tuesday said there are media which want to take him "to the gallows" with the denunciations of corruption in his public functions.

Héctor Rodriguez Pimentel, without citing the names of the investigative journalists Alicia Ortega and Nuria Piera, said there are journalists who sought interviews to corner him and jeopardize him personally. “We are always open but there are media here which what they want is take us to the gallows.”

Interviewed in the Z-101 FM morning radio program, the official also denied reports that the Presidency’s Press director Rafael Núñez has prohibited officials from granting interviews to Piera and other journalists who denounce Government corruption.

Piera recently denounced the use of IAD equipment in the construction of a private marina property of Rodriguez Pimentel in his home town Montecristi (northwest).

As to Ortega’s denunciation, Rodriguez Pimentel defended the contracts he signed to build the dam at Monte Grande (southwest) and repairs of the Sabana Yegua hydroelectric, which according to denounced in Ortega’s television program, is plagued by ballooned costs as high as 1,200% and detected in a report by the Bidding Committee, which probes denunciations of irregularities in the tender offers.

The document, presented Monday in Ortega’s program, found a series of distorted prices in the contract’s allotments, but even so then INDRHI director Héctor Rodriguez Pimentel signed it last year.

Don't be fooled.

We are in the Dominican Republic. The guilty always go free. ALWAYS.

There is no will to enforce the laws.

There is an urgent need for an effective anti corruption commission to investigate and have public hearings into these purported acts of corruption and there must be proper and lengthy custodial sentances handed out.
The continuation of corruption in the DR under the leadership of Leonel detracts completely from the good economic work that has been done

Did anyone get the vaticans signature to release the funds. If not, that means the deal is not complete.

Poor Poor Hector, does the little lady scare ya. If the evidence is wrong , then it shouldn't be a problem defending your decision to sign such contract. As a matter of fact, pull out your track record and show the media they are wrong. (This ass bag was brought to you by the LEE-FLEA productions)

More from the idiots in charge:

Where’s the war?

Writing in today’s El Dia, former Dominican ambassador to the United States, Rafael Molina Morillo questions the signing of a defense cooperation agreement between Brazil and the Dominican Republic. “Where’s the war?” he asks. “Where is the armed struggle that justifies this concern by these two nations?” he asks, commenting that the treaty implies the purchase of weapons and supplies for the navy, air force and army. Molina criticizes the fact that this agreement will certainly require government spending on trips by military officials and other ceremonial expenditures and perhaps the purchase of weapons. “Would it not have been better to sign agreements for health or education?” he asks, demanding an explanation.

The gallows would be way too nice for this card carrying slime ball. This is the same a..hole that caused the deaths of hundreds of people because of his been "asleep at the wheel", when in 2008 the torrential rains filled the dams to capacity, and they had to abruptly let the water out.
An adequate outcome for this misnomer of a public servant would be:
1. Consecutive 30 year sentences.
2. Reimbursement of all moneys missing and stolen.
3. Public degradation.
But of course we all know that none of the above, would be the final end of story in the real world of DR politics.

We all know who is really lying here, and am sure is not Nuria or Alicia.

This guy is guilty, just like everyone else in this administration.

I'd vote for hanging him at high noon from one of those underused lamp posts in the Malecon. These people are worthless slime, liars and cheaters and grafters and traitors and thieves; they represent the "bottom of the barrel" of humankind.

I'd cry no tears if this man were quickly executed. None.

Nice Bobby Joe, If he is innocent then proving it should be easy.

But with "ballooned costs as high as 1,200%" he is corrupt or a total moron, either way he should be jailed impersonating a human being.

Over last few days, we've been discussing all that borrowing going on in DR for anything related to infrastructure, health care and education. I mentioned several time about the danger of "borrow & spend", and how it could land us in financial ruin.

Well, it seems as if some notable Western European countries are in the midst of such an impending storm. I am specifically referring to: Greece, Portugal, Spain and Ireland. These countries are part of EU, and way more advanced than DR in all areas. If this could happen to them, think hard about what will happen to DR.

Leonel and cronies, please stop this ruinous practice of "Borrow and Spend" and exercise fiscal responsibility. We clearly don't need all of those ugly apartment buildings, nor do we need to buy any votes. Next elections should be won fair and square. At present pace, you should go down in Caribbean history as one of the least fiscally responsible leaders, who mortgaged future generations.
