Santo Domingo.- Environment Minister Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal is concerned with what he calls weak fines slapped on those who harm nature, noting that they must be treated as “criminals.”

“There must be a criminalization,” the official said and stressed that as Environment Minister he can only investigate those who break the law and file charges in court, “but there the prosecutors are very benign.”

The official said what’s needed are stronger laws and enforcement, because in his view environment prosecutors sometimes respond to political influences or feel sorry for the defendants.

Fernandez Mirabal, interviewed in the television program Hoy Mismo, affirmed that there’s no fine which can pay for damages to the environment.

Jaime is one of the few trustworthy public servants.

Unfortunately he is as powerless, as are the other few, to do anything.

He could have a police operation to stop and scrap all those horrible trucks that turn the cities into gas chambers.

jb,

I must agree with BASTA!

St. James credibility and trustworthiness disappeared the moment he bent over for LIE-onel Fernandez's Cement Plant Project.

He is weak-kneed, spineless and above all just another corrupt PLD BUM like his BOSS!

His fifteen minutes were up a long, long, time ago!

Dominicans have no backbone, it has been replaced with greed.

I have to agree, this guy came out of the chutes hot and heavy, then the inbred entitlement corruption gene kicked in.

Now he is just one of the scum.
