The agents seize the birds.

Santo Domingo.- The Livestock Agency seized 101 fighting roosters  and hens smuggled from Puerto Rico, aboard the boat “Buena Vida,” intercepted the Navy upon arriving at the marina in Casa de Campo, La Romana.

Animal Quarantine Technicians slaughtered and incinerated the birds, as the Law on Live Animal Imports stipulates.

“Thanks to the Navy’s cooperation we were to halt the introduction of these birds to the country, because we don’t know their sanitary state, which would endanger our stock,” said Livestock director Dr. Ángel Faxas.

WTF??? There are enough Dominican fighting rosters en el cibao to supply the entire country... Why would they import PR fighting rosters? Are they trained to take a dive?

tex,
there are roster vitimin shops on almost every street corner of Santiago...lol
My friend had this roster that had spent over one year mostly in the dark. Humans were scared of that roster. When we went to the gallera the roster jumped into the crowd and wanted to attack the people!!! lol

But I did double my cash that I had on me that day!

And now where are all the people who say our armed forces are a joke? Look what a great job they have done intercepting and protecting us from these smugglers. We are so proud of this action. If our country was a movie it would be a tragic comedy.

"Slaughtered" = beheaded

"Incinerated" = fried or broiled.

The guys in La Romana are having an all you can eat chicken dinner.

Jarabacoa,
Why is it a sick sport? Because it's not blessed by the Gringos?
Cock-fighting is part of our culture.

What a waste to kill all those fine birds, that were probably worth a fortune to someone. I think they should have been quarantined first, before destroying them.
There is a great rivalry between big bucks PR rooster owners and similar DR aficionados, and I hear the stakes are humungous.
The rooster is the symbol for Balaguer's party, and is the bravest bird bar none. I have seen a rooster
trying to fight against a 500 kilo bull, no joke. LOL.

That was a distraction for the 1,000 kilos of coke that came in that boat.

Seems very strange that the law was strictly adhered to in this matter whilst in most other cases it is not .. Is the real power in this country held by cock owners ??

This was just a convenient relief valve for a military under fire from many sides. The stupid thing is that these birds could have been headed to Figueroa Agosto. Then again, these people probably already know his whereabouts and didn't need the birds anyway. Maybe they were afraid Alicia or Nuria would pick up the trail that would lead them directly to the PRican criminal.

When it comes to cock smuggling, the DR navy is on top of their game.
However, boat loads of cocaine gives them a little problem.
As they say, cock ain't cash like coke.

Hey Juanb, I agree. Not the Keystone Kops.

It may be part of my heritage, but it still the barbarous killing of innocent animals to fill the blood lust of my fellow Dominicans. I have never and will never see this "Spectacle".

The reason people "import" Fighting Roosters from PR is that the Puerto Ricans are amongst the best breeders in the world!

The industry generates close to half a billion dollars plus!
