Washington.- President Barack Obama’s choice as Ambassador in the Dominican Republic appeared on Thursday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he listed his priorities once confirmed in the diplomatic post.

Raul Yzaguirre thanked Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton for having the confidence in him to fill the position in Santo Domingo, vacant for almost than one year after the departure of Robert Fanning.

“The President has offered me an excellent opportunity when he named me for the post of Ambassador in the Dominican Republic. I’ve worked many years for the rights of the people in the United States and sometimes, in association with Congress, with people who make up this Committee,” Yzaguirre said, adding that if confirmed as Ambassador, would continue his efforts, “for the President and the people of the United States.”

“If confirmed, and with the consent of the Dominican political structure, I also hope to approach the political parties to congratulate them for their progress in consolidating democratic ideals by staging free and fair elections, and to offer them training to strengthen the political parties or technical assistance in the electoral area,” the ambassador-designate said in an statement emailed by the State Department.

“In this manner I hope to be able to strengthen the advances which the Dominicans themselves have achieved in the last two decades in relation to electoral reform,” Yzaguirre said.

"Ahora Juan Bosch duerme tendido en el indomeñable lecho de sus frustraciones. La corrupción en el gobierno del partido que él fundó es equivalente, o superior, a la que él combatió con su prédica y su ejemplo de vida, en los gobiernos del PRSC o el PRD; y su sueño de convertir el partido en un proyecto social se desmigaja en los numerosos proyectos individuales de enriquecimiento personal de la pequeña burguesía del PLD. Ignorance is bliss.

Total death toll was less than 150,000.

The death toll does not matter. The Bombs ended a WAR THAT JAPAN STARTED!
If it would have saved even one more US soldier's life I would have dropped 100 bombs on Japan.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward for the Congressional elections to come about. You'd think that their lost of the Massachusetts seat would have awakened the democrat jackasses about the need of paying more attention to domestic matters, but it seems that an even more rude of an awakening is in order.

Could you please stop your ridiculous and shameless cheerleading? You know as well as I do that the gringos couldn't care any less about the human rights of haitians not only on the DR, but on Haiti itself. And at worse, they're laughing uproariously about your (and to a certain extent, our) tragedy at closed doors, cuz' your Haiti cherie is the poster child about their known stereotype of "blacks being unable to govern themselves" and their beloved Jefferson's belief about the need to "having the disease confined on that island". Not even their african americans would shed a tear if your people were to become extinct.

He sounds pretty good to me:

One of the most high-profile Hispanics in the United States due to his outspoken advocacy of the interests of Mexican-Americans and the creation of a pluralistic society that prides itself on its cultural diversity, Raul Yzaguirre was president of the National Council of La Raza, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, for three decades. Representing the interests of his constituents in education, immigration, and in other social policy matters, he devoted his energies to improving the opportunities for Hispanic Americans as that group became a growing and increasingly influential sector of the U.S. population during the late 20th century.

I' m not sure if you are familiar with the speech given in 1963 at The UN General assembly by the king of kings him self Ras Tafari better know to the world as The Emperor Haile Selassie. The text of that speech was turn into a song in 1976 by the late great Robert Nestor Marley, the tittle of that song is War. It quickly became the anthem of the oppressed throughout the world. As a black man first a Haitian second that speech and that song have been the battle cry of my existance. So yes the ascendancy of Barack Hussein Obama to the presidency of the United States, leader of the free world is above and beyond my national interests for the world have never stop to remind me I'm a nigga first.

If something, you should really wake up and smell the coffee, cuz' if there's something that Obama have shown thus far is that he's a WASP in a mixed race body. Proof of this is that he hasn't backpedaled on ANY single point of the past administration's agenda, from the rescue of the corporations under the current crisis to the maintainment of the war policy in Afghanistan. The Nobel people were just a bunch of morons to have awarded him the prize without waiting for his administration to show its true colors, no pun intended. For all intends and purposes, Obama has proven to be the contrary to what you are, that is, he's an american first and THEN he's an afram, as it should have been the case with the rest of that ethnicity in the first place.

I did like Obama a little bit and dislike the previous pig, mentally retarded president and even hate Fox channel for being so Republican but at this point I feel like Obama is a week president with an anti-Dominican agenda and guess what Dominicans represent more than a 1,000,000 souls in the US so let's wait with patient for the next elections and kick out the "week democrats", at least Bush showed his true colors but Obama is like a camaleon and also applies for the corrupted Clintons.

I never had hopes of any kind with him as far as the DR was concerned, cuz' he was part of the Congressional Black Caucus (Maxine Waters et al.), a group that have always hated us with a passion, and which consider us as the culprits of every single tragedy that have ever befallen to the haitians, and the fact that his own wife is a well known race socialist on academic circles. Right now I consider the republicans to be the lesser of two evils, cuz' all that this party ever cares about is protecting Israel at any and all costs, including leaving Latin America to fend for itself, which suits me just fine. Dime con quien andas y te diré quien eres.

I take my right to vote very seriously simply because people had to die for me to get that privilege. I do not vote for candidate base on personality. You just assumed you know my politic.
FYI - I'm a black Republican, I live in a 35% tax bracket, the democratic agenda on taxes and social issues do not seat well with me. However seeing a black man seating in that office in my lifetime Totally priceless.

Well, it's good to know that you haven't caved in to the usual epithets that are thrown to aframs of that political side whenever they are bold enough to be vocal about it. Even though that side of the US political spectrum has been growing on the last few years, you certainly are not seen on friendly terms by the majority. Kudos to you for your bravery.

Man, this black folks talk about Oblama, as if he was black from Africa, the man is half white, for crying out loud, raised by a white family, wake up buddy, color has nothing to do with him being the president, the black people did not vote him in, or the hispanic, for that matter, it took a collective group of people from every race, mostly WHITE, plus the fact that John Mcain was very unpopular, and the GOP had the country in the brink of desperation.

.....even I voted for him.

Wake up, life does not consist on skin color all the time.
