SANTO DOMINGO.- Tantrums and pressures in the political parties flared yesterday when candidates were substituted in Wednesday’s registry on which 18 challenges have been filed before the Central Electoral Board (JCE) so far, while others threaten to do likewise.
The people whose candidacies didn’t figure in the registry demand a JCE ruling on their validity before March 22, date by which it must" correct those errors" or "mischief" aimed at boycotting their aspirations.
Among the most conflictive cases are the ruling PLD party’s 14 City Council candidacies in Santo Domingo’s 3rd Electoral District, who challenged their being pushed back on the ballot and await the revocation of their organization’s decision.
They affirm that adding another reserved candidacy changes the registration rules and lowers their possibilities of being elected.
Complaints also surfaced in the ruling party’s main ally, the PRSC, as dozens of visibly angry people went to the JCE headed by the deputy Rafaela Alburquerque, who challenged the omission of Sandra Ivelise Martinez, whose candidacy to Azua’s (south) city Council was “ripped off” and whose dossier "vanished."
Yet another of the many cases of replaced or demoted candidacies even affected the deputies to the Central American Parliament, and a Deputy candidacy in the subdivision Los Alcarrizos.
However JCE judges Eddy Olivares and John Guiliani affirm that the conflicts would not affect the electoral calendar and announced that a Resolution will be issued on Monday, 23 March, as Law 275-97 stipulates.
