Santo Domingo. - Activities in the Las Americas International Airport began to get back to normal today as workers try to fix the energy system which failed Saturday night, and some areas in the South terminal are still without power, including the central security checkpoint.
On Monday morning passengers made normal lines to check in and board flights without delay to New York, Miami and San Juan among other destinations.
Since early morning Power Company and Airport technicians resumed the repair work on the power system which supplies energy, while businesses were open with backup units brought on line, including a plant brought on a flat bed truck.

STI is hands down the best aiport in the country. I have flown through POP and SDQ in the past, nothing but drama, hustles and trouble.

I don't know why they cancelled direct flights from NJ to Santiago... Was it done to save the POP airport?

Miami/Santiago,
The Santiago Airport is not only the best airport in the country, but also one of the best things that's happened for Santiago and the region in years. Say what you will about Leonel -- regardless of your political inclination -- it was a bold and visionary move on his part. My personal belief is that if STI had not been built, I would not have bought an appartment in Santiago -- and I know this to be the case for a host of others. Having STI means that I can leave my office or place in Doral (Miami) at 5:00 PM, at the airport parked, checked-in, and crossing security by 5:30, catch a 6:30 flight, and be at my place in La Esmeralda with a pequena in my hand by 9:00 (provided I "carry on") -- PRICELESS!

diablo montesino that is the life... It takes me about 6 hours to get to STI by the time I transfer planes in Florida... But yes its a hell of alot better than coming in via the other airports...
Less time traveling = more time with the women and a cold one in hand lol

Santiago is by far the best city on the island. I have been all over but Santiago is home. And yes I wish Continental still had flights from Newark to STI. I liked flying them and EWR and JFK are the same distance from me.
