SANTO DOMINGO. - The Presidency’s Chief of Staff revealed on Thursday that the Spaniard being held on charges of importing 1,200 kilos of pure cocaine to his country was introduced to president Leonel Fernandez as a partner of the Spain based global power company Union Fenosa.

Cesar Pina Toribio said Arturo del Tiempo, who’s being held in Barcelona after the Spanish authorities uncovered the drug aboard a ship, was presented as an executive of the transnational company after the Government’s intelligence agencies conducted a background check which established that the foreigner was “solvent.”

The widening scandal in the case of del Tiempo broke when blogs and news sources published several photos with Fernandez, especially a groundbreaking ceremony for the now confiscated luxury condo building Torre Atiemar.

Although investigators have yet to release the names of the possible financial links and the accomplices which provided the bridge to obtain the President’s presence in the groundbreaking, the same blogs and local news sources report of the involvement of senior government and military officials.

Del Tiempo is accused of owning the cocaine found on the ship docked in the port of Valencia which set sail from Dominican Republic.

In hard economic times which Spain is certainly having formerly somewhat honest men turn to crime for survival or what they think is easy money ......If so the punishment will be harsh and swift and they will feel the pain of falling to so far so fast .....LF will not be tainted as josean and others hope

The danger of the way our democracies elect governments, empowered by the indiscriminate and popular votes of the masses, is not Leonel Fernandez, or Hipoloco Mejia, but a citizenry capable of entrusting men like them with the presidency. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The DR or other similar representative democracies will not survive with the multitude of fools with the power of vote, such as those who made him their president.

This article does not confirm if del Tiempo was actually an employee of Union Fenosa or not. Doesn't the Head of State have a team of people who set-up meetings (in advance) and confirms security on each individual that attends such meeting with a short bio on those individuals along with an agenda of said meeting? LF had to know who del Tiempo was, and to say he didn't is an outright lie. The million dollar question is: What was in the luxury apt building deal that would benefit LF or Margarita? LF and his team of Payasos are squirming now trying to take the spotlight of the PLD royalty. Look for another BIG scandal to pop-up shortly that will focus everyone's attention toward the new story, thus relieving the focus on LF + del Tiempo relationship.
