San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic.- Drugs Control (DNCD) agents uncovered two landing strips hidden in the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park, used by planes to bring drugs from South America.
DNCD president Rolando Rosado yesterday said antinarcotics agents busted a cocaine airdrop near the town Enriquillo, Barahona province (southwest) on Monday, and arrested Norberto Felipe Fernández, Freddy Nelson Pérez, Antonio Armando Méndez, Fernando Inoa, Noé Balipto Agustín, Wilkin Sánchez and Carlin Nicolás Samboy, as well as the South American Oscar Morales.
He said a specialized DNCD team, backed by Navy and Joint Task Force personnel went to the area to detect the aborted landing, after the flight was detected in Curazao airspace by the Cooperator Nations information Exchange System, based in Florida.
The group alleged they were looking for lands to plant beans in the zone, which Rosado discarded since the area is barren.
