San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic. – A San Cristóbal province (south) court handed down a prison sentence for noise pollution a landmark ruling in Dominican Republic, a country known for its joyous but often noisy towns.
San Cristóbal First Collegiate Court judge Carmen Matos found William de la Rosa and Justo Rivera, owners of the business known as colmadon “Furgon de las Frias” (container of the cold ones), located in that town’s main street, guilty of emitting noise above the legal decibels, and sentenced them to spend six days in Najayo prison and fined 100 minimum wages (around RD$500,000).
San Cristóbal Environment prosecutor Francia Calderón said she had notified the owners several times of the complaints by nearby residents, adding that the conviction sets a precedent, given the harm unregulated din causes to the population.

This is great news and maybe we have turned the corner on this problem of lack of respect for other peoples tranquility;........String up the offenders

Nope. The real story is always something else. Probably a personal dispute, nothing to do with enforcing ordinances.

This is the best News have heard in the past 6 years living here. Maybe, Just Maybe they start enforcing drivers stopping at red lights , enforce speed limits , and educate how to drive in one lane.

What a waste. I can fully agree with protecting people from high volume music but how about arresting some of the corrupt politicians and police of San Cristóbal first. Do some real police work in making San Cristóbal a better place all around. No they would rather settle personal disputes and pass bribe money to do it.

Sorry but I would never take your food stamps or welfare check away from you because that would make me feel bad since I can afford to live without it just fine. So please keep you coupons and keep stealing electricity but don't complain to the CDEEE if you not paying for it. I can complain because I pay for it and as normal people I demand what I rightfully paid for with hard earned money. You should try it one day it would make you feel more in power to speak out in public.

The jail sentence is new, but speakers have been "arrested" in colmadones on many occasions.
It's one of those laws that's enforced every... oh, say.... six months or so....
Glad to hear it. That place blasted music so loud at night, your car would vibrate when you drove by. You could actually feel the base "beat" inside your car with the windows closed
Oh, and LOTS of nice looking females in that place.... it's really popular.

This is a good sign. At least they start to crackdown on loud music. Many customers refuse to patronize most of the Dominican restaurants in NY because of their loud music. Some are decent such as El Grand Castillo on Flatbush Ave and Park Place; El viejo Yayo on 5th Ave and Dean St, both are in Brooklyn near Park Slope area.
