Santo Domingo. - President Leonel Fernandez yesterday bestowed the Woman’s Medal of Merit on 10 women who stand out for their contributions to the country’s development in diverse areas, in an event held out in the National Palace, to mark International Woman’s Day.
Teresa Quidiello was awarded for her contributions in education, Giovanny Sibilia in sports; Lesbia Recio in politics Ellen Levy Koenig in science and technology; Juana Francisca Campusano in the professional area; Gladys Perez in arts and Flor Taveras and Juana Lomi in communitarian work.
Also decorated were Thoraya Ahmed Obaíd, director of the United Nations Population Fund, and Mirta Roses Periago, director of the Pan-American Health Organization.
