Santo Domingo.– Nearly 2,000 cases of dengue fever have been registered in the Dominican Republic this year, 291 of which were the hemorrhagic kind which caused the death of at least 14 people.

According to Health Minister Nelson Rodriguez, the country could have more dengue cases in 2010 than last year's 8,800. A total of 52 died of the disease in 2009.

Rodriguez said the increase of the cases are the result of the drought affecting the country, which causes the appearance of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito that harbor the virus.

Is there any prevention that we might use to protect ourselves from the severity? I am traveling right now is there a required immunization before reentering the country of the Dominican Republic?
I went ahead and researched this and below you will see the link to learn what the answer is to my question. We have an old abandoned cistern next door to our property. I will have the local autority help to fill this dangerous stagnet water source immediatly.

The neglect of the government to these types of problems makes these health matters worse, as they go ahead and waste another $750,000,000 million dollars on a non priority METRO!

PESTILENCE

Apparently the tubes of the tanks and baths make contact, causing the water to get in bad condition. This situation endangers the health of people living in that area.

I was told the larger mosquitos have the dengue germ. Not the smaller ones. Is this true?

clinker,
I always try to stay away from mosquitos... By the time you see if its a big mosquito or small, you are toast... Most mosquitos attack you while you are sleeping anyway
