Santo Domingo. – The Chief of Police yesterday called "hair-raising" a gang of minors arrested in connection with the murders of at least seven taxi drivers in Santo Domingo East to steal money and other belongings.
Rafael Guzmán said he’s concerned with those types of crimes organized by minors, two youngsters between 15 and 17 years of age among them.
The investigation revealed that a 15 year old minor in the gang directly participated in the stabbing death of one of its victims, to steal money and other items.

Very young, my age. Why so young? Failed education system!. If Balaguer would had cared more about our education system long time ago, this kind of things wouldn't ever happen as often as now, because this young fellows would have being in school instead of the streets and about to graduate and get a decent job! ....

But either way no one no matter your condition has the right to kill another person. Filthy pigs. We need capital sentence in this country fast.
From: United States
WOW!!!! Never thought that this would ever happen in the DR. It has however been a very common occurence in Central America, with the crime-thug, street gang, marasalvatruchas. It has also been happening for a long time in places such as Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico and Colombia. I just hope we will never have to resort towards "death squads" as a way to cleanse the city of the undesirable youth.
Nevertheless, I suspect this to be a recent phenomena just taking hold of the DR. It is quite possible that the newly arrived deported Dominican ex-cons and foreigners alike have imported a new operating methology by manipulating delinquent youth, possibly even by corrupt police and other crime organizations to commit crimes, to take advantage of the penal codes against youth that offer minimal to no consequences.
From: United States, Reality Check
One theory is that they are trying to finance their "drug habits". There has been a loose focus on education and then couple that with the RD Gov officials "hand in the cookie jar" approach to drug trafficking.... You foster an environment where youth can become more violent & desperate!
Maybe they learn some new tricks from many of the returning ex-cons (i.e. an uncle) that was deported from the US. Clearly, the RD Gov has created a failing system.
Drugs are blatantly sold on the streets & especially on school routes, so maybe one day once the addiction kicked in they had to put school aside. It is a vicious circle while even though some politicians & military officials are getting rich (right under US DEA noses)... there is a greater opportunity costs to society.
So, lets pray for the victims families who lost a father, husband etc.

actually, joemama, it is just that josean believes, as i do, that the fish stinks from the head down, or, ¨the buck stops here ¨. when a major , or even minor, business fails , the CEO is usually the first to go. nobody is naive enough to believe that Leonel should be on the streets, waving a glock, to maintain law and order. it is a matter of setting the tone. as gruesome as he was, this was not allowable in the days of Trujillo, and he was not patrolling the streets himself. but, his actions conveyed to the hoods that he would fix them if they were caught. it is the permissiveness that allows corruption, delinquency, and the movement of all types of contraband, be it drugs or illegal money movements. somebody has to crack the whip, and that somebody is the President. if he cannot, what good is he?

LF is not a perfect person, not even Hussein-Obama a " peace maker" according to some Norwegian crackheads, who promised to return America back to its stable legs has managed to do a lot this last 2 years in power. Being a president is a hard task, LF might not be that good in education system, but he is really good in foreign policies, or doing important projects like dams or roads. Every president has its special abilities. Look even the Hippo has his own special ability in the agriculture sector, he knows how to deal with it even tho he was a disaster, by mismanaging the economy.

The problem is the lack of basic spiritual concepts in the life of the child. It is easy to blame the head of a government for all the faults of a degenerate population. Where do good spiritual values begin in any child? At home on the lap of mom, and grandma. Then reenforced by a decent school system. And the good example of a (legal) father!
From: United States
It takes a village to raise a child. We are the product of the sum total combination of all environmental influences, such as society, school, church and home/parents. If one or more of these factors are absent or missing in a child's life, it is bound to set the pace for the creation of future criminal elements, but regardless of whether or not all key elements are perfectly set in place, it is not a quarantee for anything. Individuals may have a genetic predisposition to become serial killers or develop some form of deviant criminal behavior for no apparent reason. It is common or typical of many whom committed the most horrendous crimes against society on the surface first appear to be well adjusted, were even raised by excellent parents, came from good homes and upper middle class neighborhoods, yet are worse then the worst of the ghetto.

The story we read above is not about delinquent teen-agers, it is rather about the conditions of our present day world, a mirror which reflects our morally sick society. The crime committed by these youth is simply and nothing but a meter which measures the decadence and how low we have fallen. What can we expect from youth when our leaders and role models have abandoned their sense of decency and morality. What can we expect when political corruption is condoned and elected officials allowed to live and enjoy a lavish lifestyle in spite of commiting a non-violent, but illegal and criminal act. What can we expect from our youth when pedophile priests for years sexually abuse minors, yet the church looks the other way or protects them. What can we expect from our youth when drug and alcohol abuse is now an acceptable social activity. What can we expect when divorce rates are at an all time high and children see parents change sexual partners like underwear, the media gloryfies thugs.

But just for the record, in general, I know that it is good to speak your mind, but some times it is best to keep quiet. You just have to be selective as to when to talk and when to clam-up. In this forum it really does not matter, your post added a little extra spice to the stew to make it more flavorful. However, there is a saying, in Spanish, "El pescado muere por la boca." That is why it is best not to always say what you think, once you spurt of words, you just can't never take it back. The tongue though small, a tiny part compared to other organs, it is a very powerful weapon, it can do good just as much as it can do great harm. That's right, a powerful weapon and its ammunition are the words we speak The tongue can be compared to a rudder on a ship. Just as a tiny tiller can control the direction of a large boat, so too, the tongue can control the direction of life
