Senators still dip into the barrel.

SANTO DOMINGO. - The ruling PLD party’s campaign chief today called the opposition PRD’s stance on the slush fund known as the “barrilito” (little barrel) ”demagogic” because its senators still pocket that money.

Francisco Javier Garcia challenged the PRD’s senators to publicly desist from collecting the fund and not just criticize. “The PRD now wants to Satanize the so-called barrilito, something which was created with another hue during that political organization’s tenure when it controlled the Senate.”

He said when the PRD controlled the Senate its lawmakers distributed large sums of money among themselves using the nongovernment organizations registered under their name. “In fact what the PLD did in its tenure was to eliminate the nongovernmental organizations of the legislators and distribute the funds among the senators for them to use in works of a social nature.”

“Our party’s senators have already desisted from taking the money from the barrilito, but those of the white (PRD) party still continue obtaining those funds, so why don’t they drop that demagoguery,” Garcia said, adding that the incongruity is one of the PRD’s negative aspects the nation is accustomed to.

LOL - this has been going on for decades, in one form or another. The only way to fix it is a complete purge of the system - something that will never happen as long as the corrupt control and the poor remain apathetic.

Is there no Dominican "saviour" out there that can see through the ruses of the ruling parties, whether PLD or PRD? The country is heading for a nose dive if LF stays in power for the next term (and apparently as many others as he can purchase, as well)... Sad, failed state...

Someone needs to understand that corruption is the slide to hell, and the only way to stop the fall is to allow a complete generation of Dominicans the access to quality education so the "new new leaders" are "above the cesspool of RD corruption"... It is a tall order, but a leader with vision is needed - not the common myopic head's of state that can only see a few years out, which simply adds to the long term systemic downfall of the island.

The DR needs a 25 year progress plan
