Santo Domingo.– Dominican Cyclist Leonardo Grullon died after he and four other cyclists were hit by a truck while training for the Panamerican championships.

According to the Dominican Cycling Federation, 24-year-old Grullon was struck when an unidentified truck driver apparently fell asleep and ran into the group in a mountainous community northwest of Santo Domingo.

Four of the five cyclists were members of the national team, including Juan Carlos Polanco, who is critically injured. They were expected to travel to Mexico for the championships starting on April 30.

This starts to sound like a very bad joke:
How come The Dominican Republic does not have a bicycle team?
They all got killed in traffic!
Could have been funny, if it had not been the sad sad truth.
Condolences to the family and rest in peace Leonardo.

I have been driving around the country quite a bit of late and nothing would induce me to ride a bike ...I do not know who is the worst , the bus drivers who take crazy risks and have no respect for anyone ,or truck drivers who lack concentration or car drivers always chatting on the cells ..Anyone who shows courtesy on the road is looked at as a crazy man. so sorry for these cyclists

If you want to have fun stop and let someone cross the road. They look at you like you are playing chicken with them and plan on running them over. What a country.

I bought a piece of property. Walled it in with 7 ft walls, cleaned up all the neighbors garbage, planted flowers and theyare throwing t he garbage over the wall onto my property now. What a country, what a class people.

Being considerate here is just a BS Abstraction.

My heart goes to Grullon's family and friends. I saw the news, and the image wasn't for the feint hearted. Anything u do in DR risky! The word "safety" is scarce in DR. And yeah them friggn bus drivers just goes to pull over the side of the road to load/unload passengers and when they go back to the road, they don't bother looking at their mirrors to check if a motorist is gonna pass by. Escott, my grandma is going through the same issue as you. My grandma has land unattended, and people just throw many different kinds of trash from bicycle chains to plastic bottles and rags. People have no damn shame.

There is no political will to enforce any law unless it suits a politician.
Yes everyone shuld mourn this unescassary death however the guilt lies in the hands of the poiticians who have only the will to fill their pockets with money and no will to insitute justice.

Are you implying that politicians should write the laws, enforce compliance of the laws and judge the law breakers ?? God forbid .
