Santo Domingo.- Everything is ready to launch ex president Hipólito Mejía’s new bid for the National Palace, in a gathering slated for mid to late May, his spokesman Héctor Guzmán said Sunday.

He said Mejía has become the catalyst in the unity of the opposition PRD party, where in his view the former chief executive doesn’t have internal competition.

Interviewed by Héctor Herrera Cabral on Channel 11, Guzmán affirmed that the main topics of Mejía’s political proposal to the party and the country have already been discussed by foreign and local advisers who work with his project.

He said the date to launch Mejía’s candidacy will disclosed after the May 16 elections.

Is this guy kidding?

Let us not allow one person to forget what this guy did to our country:

The dollar at 55 to one.
Ruined our credit internationally.
The blatant and vulgar corruption.
Allowed the same criminal activities by his goons as LF.

The list goes on and on.

The worst President of all time wants another chance to rape and pillage again and many are dumb enough to want to give it to him.

El caudillismo is a way of life in dominican politics, and the sad part is that this caudillo have a lot of followers.

I guess you can tell the rate of mentally deficient PRD members based upon the number of HM supporters.

Don't rule out Hipoloco yet, he was a terrible president, like all previous PRD governments, but he raised the bar for ineptness and dumb moves.
As far as knowing how to maneuver in the dark alleys of PRD politics, he is THE master blaster.
He is much more astute than Miguel Vargas and a craftier politician, he also knows how to maneuver and forge alliances, and I will not be surprised at all if he takes the nomination away from Vargas in 2012. But being elected president again with his nightmarish record would be a very uphill battle, and near impossible task, but you never know in DR politics, anything can happen at the last minute.
If he does win the PRD nomination, then the PLD will have a cakewalk for an election win in 2012.

I rather have LF than this clown. Remember Banintel, el caso Marcella, el famoso Plan Renove; Banintel alone cost the country over 60 billion pesos, Plan Renove around 2 billion.

JuanB, El_Platano well put guys...

However, guess what?

One problem with Dominicans is about ignorance and poor mental quality. They tend to forget the very next day about what someone like this did to our country!! The whole country will elect him again with their eyes closed. They don't care... they are too concerned about La Fria, La Disco, Los Cueros, EL Ultimo Grito de La Moda.

We need an intellectual revolution, a new "Renaissance", a new breed of Dominicans.

If this keeps going and going, we are DOOOOOOOOMED!!

When will we get an honourable candidate?? Well after everybody was thinking that nobody could be more corrupt than Hipolito Mejia, the current government is doing a great effort to become more corrupt. It is time for the Dominican people to finish off all those corrupt politicians and restore order in the country, so that we enjoy the most beautiful country in the world.

Now Pat, we wish well unto the new dawn that awaits Haiti's resuscitation and understand that a good Haitian government is in the national interests of the DR. Vice-versa the same should hold, no? For how would things be managed if the better off side of the divided island should fall into chaos? Only, someone who wants bitter fruits for both sides would consider the advent of another Hipólito Administration a deserving future for the people of the DR. The same nation that has so willingly and humanely offered its resources in Haiti's great tragedy and hour of need.

The point I'm trying to make it's the electorate which usually gives the power to these fools sad but true. In the 2004 US election people voted for the dunce George Bush simply because he looked like a guy they can have a beer with. Same as this Cat believe it or not he still resonnated with the mass.Majority of the time the mass does not vote on the issues but for the guy they feel they can related to, and here lie the problem for good governance.

LF without Hair

Same crap, different day!

I heard that when the DR Chess Team crashed into Mt Isabella the IQ in this country dropped 90%. I think it was 99.5%.

Thing is he will probably get elected which would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Watch all the US Dollars flee the country again!

It will be good if your income is in US dollars. Prices will come back in line. That swill they call Presidente will be less expensive than imported beer costs in the US again here in the DR

BS, Escott

He is not the same as LF. At least LF has done some good deeds for the country economically, infrastructurally, and in other aspects of our daily lives. Please understand I'm not defending LF. I'm simply saying I rather have LF than Hipolito.

Above all, we need a man who can toughen up and show DR PPL the real deal. Let's educate everyone the right way. Let's repatriate all illegials back to their countries, no exclusions -especially Haitians.

We need a president who can keep the progress of the country going. Remember one thing, we cannot stop the 360 progress, otherwise we go back 100 years. Without foreign investment we are nothing, but a peasant country full of Illiterates, just like Hipolito Mejia (supposely college educated).

My point is let's fight for the island not a party, man, or unique ideal - but the DOMINICAN UNIFIED IDEAL. We are DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ABOVE ALL.

By the way, send all Haitians back, all, NOT EXCEPTONS!!

Problem with sending Hatians back is that nothing will get done here.

L.F. is no different than Mejia. DR is in more debt now than under Hippo. EVERYONE does some work here but LF took money OUT of education for his METRO.

This government is keeping the people down via bad health, bad water, bad electric and BAD education. That's what keeps these ladrones in office and giving them the ability to get re-elected. People have many things to keep them busy instead of watching over their government.

At least under Hippo people with a US$ income lived better. Under L. F. NO ONE LIVES GOOD!

What was the first thing the PLD HAD TO DO when they took control?? ANSWER, Raise ITBS 33% from 12% to 16%
to start paying back the celestial debt that skin head created by borrowing money from any country that would loan shark it to him. Hipolito never had any intention of paying back the money.
Who payed it back? You and me thats who and we're still paying it back and back and back.
Who in this country can not consider that act of economic terrorism?

Is there not one candidate thats close to a PATRIOT of the D.R. to run tis country?

Go ahead Hipolito do them a favor.

Dude, Agreed

That's the first thing I thought of. He is doing this to Miguel to screw him up and have PLD win all over again. No that I don't want to. Although, I don't agree with a lot of things they are doing, however I rather have them than the BAND OF THE WORST THUGS (PRD). If not, ask Jorge Blanco, Hipolito, Miguel, etc.

Our main problem it's us, We DOMINICANS. Before we can fix the country we need to look at ourselves first and realize we are not born with a stamp in our foreheads that read PRD, or PLD, or whatever?

We first must educate ourselves, let's stop listening to the old goons in our families who repeat the same vicious cycle over and over and then Johny turns just like his old dad, grandpa, and who knows what?

See our traditions are the worst, in order to fix the country we must fix our nuclear homes, our beliefs, our education at home, and many things more. Our problems are not politically related, if not go ask rich countries how they made it?

cont....

They made it cause they realized Education, Infrastructure, and Economics were the combination to success. However, in addition to that, PPL themselves (every group, family, and individual) must play a big role in accomplishing it. The government is simply an entity just any other. A bank, a Mcdonald, a restaurant, etc. Only the employees in these entities make it a good one or bad one.

Leonel is trying his best to bring some of this, however - after all he is amongst new and old traditionalists. Those who does and those who doesn't. So there's so much he can do. Trust me I'm not defending the guy. I just believe he is better than Hipolito and Miguel together.

Just a simple comment...

I have family that went into the government when Lionel Fernandez won after Hipolito and the PRD did rape and Pillage the country. I know for a fact because my cousin saw it that there were even bathroom fixtures and toilets taken from public office buildings. Not to mention that he is vulger and ill mannered. Is that the man Dominican's want representing them. I would think NOT. If he runs it would be an easy win for Lionel. Dominicana has never had it so good as they do now....If it ain't broke don't fix it. Que Viva Lionel y el PLD. Duarte would do three turns in his grave if Hipoloco won again.

Duarte would even shoot himself if he'd see how blackened DR is?

Leonel to Duarte:

Leonel: Welcome to Haiti, Duarte?
Duarte: Haiti!!
Leonel, Yes, Haiti
Duarte: But, I thought I took my piece of the island back b4 I died so all Dominicans were free and independent of all foreign invasion - them Haitians
Leonel: Sorry, Duarte.....WELCOME TO GLOBALIZATION
Duarte: heart rate 118,80 - 145,90 - 200,120 - 240,140...death by stupified Leonelization
Leonel: Sorry, Duarte there are not more men like you in this island, we all love the Haitians now. They bring a lot knowledge to our land: They know hot to ravege it, burn it, destroy it, etc, etc, etc.

My comment was not about the Haitians it was about Hipolito running again. How did the poor haitians get dragged into this......They are a poor country who suffer greatly and no one seems to care. They just so happen to the neighbor of DR. Can we all just try to get along and live a peaceful life? Don't we have enough strife in our world to add more by propagating more hatred? Let it go......

Sure, Haitians are so great and great citizens that U.S and Canada are trying to shove them down our throats 'cause they don't want them.

Only counter parts like DR can take 'cause they kind of think alike.

See, We take them on and in 5 years we'll be worst than Haiti. Or are you not Dominican?

Do you how much we've suffered so far to get where we are?

It's not about being humans. It's about reality, they are not good $$$$ producer for anybody but a big loss. We already have so many DR issues and now you think is right to add the Haitian one.

How nice?
