Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic hasn’t registered measles or  poliomyelitis cases since 2001, whereas rubella and congenital rubella syndrome haven’t been reported in three years.

Pubilc Health vice minister Nelson Rodriguez made the announcement to launch the national “Vaccination of the Americas Day” in public schools, at a cost of RD$455 million.

The official said the last case of poliomyelitis occurred in January, 2001 and of measles in June that year.

Rodriguez said the target of the vaccination drive is more than 3.1 million people of different ages against measles, rubella and polio, whereas against the H1N1 virus will begin in June, for which it already received a donation of the doses by Spain.
