The Spanish ship Hesperides discovers the fault line break,

SANTO DOMINGO. - The country’s South zone doesn’t rest on a large geological fault as was feared in the past, which reduces seismic risks and constitutes the good news for those concerned with what sparked the tragedy in Haiti, after the recent devastating quake.

The finding was announced in the conference “Some secrets which the sea hides: Geologic investigation in Dominican Republic waters,” dictated by the head of Alcala Madrid University Geodynamics Department, Andres Carbó.

The researcher based his statement on the joint studies by the Spanish Navy’s Royal Observatory, the Oceanography Institute and the Dominican organizations such as the Mining Agency, the Geologic Service, Navy and the Santo Domingo State University UASD, under the directives of the Spanish oceanographic research ship Hespérides.

“A change of geologic configuration is detected, what is called a tectonic model, allowing a prolongation towards the sea, of the limit established on land between the Hispaniola block and the one of Gonave. This explains why the migration of the breakage at the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault develops towards the west and practically doesn’t affect Dominican Republic,” Carbó said.

The geologist spoke in the activity organized by the National Authority on Maritime Affairs (ANAMAR), a governmental agency which coordinates Dominican Republic’s marine policies.

Let's have some peer reviews before we celebrate. How about this finding being confirmed by US, German, Italian, or French researchers? Then we can sleep better.

Reminds me of 2003. I had a friend who was interested in building in Santigo. However, before he started,he wanted to make sure that it was geologically safe. He brought in some experts from Santo Domingo who assured him that there was a low risk of any seismic activity. Three weeks later, we had a 6.8 earthquake. Expert, shmexpert.

i also regard this announcement with considerable sceptisism ,,as there have been a large number of tremors in the Bayahibe, Higuey and la Romana areas ...quite sufficiently strong to rock the crockery and sometimes the walls ..maybe not on a large fault but sufficiently large to cause problems

I think we should just have some more confirmation. Why not? It's "only" the safety of our own brethren at stake, no? And notice I mentioned other scientifically talented nations besides los gringos. An old saying goes, "measure twice, cut once." I say regarding large geological faults, better to have more studies and expert reviews than to rest on the world shattering expertise of Spain and DR.

And the world doesn't revolve around the Spanish and all there colonies---lighten up! You get a second opinion from a doctor if you need a operation or anything of importance---NO

I myself have little faith in all these studies it's more a wast of money when they can't say for sure. The weather reports are filtered through the tourist burial we have a 30% chance of rain in the middle of a hurricane. All scientific studies start with what they want to find and that prevents them from seeing the things that counter-dick their finding. Scientist set out to prove a bumble bee can not fly and they proved it. Thank goodness they did not tell the bumble bee.

Let's pretend that this "study" reported exactly the opposite finding. What do you suppose would happen then?

UFO sightings are not evidence of "extra-terrestrials", nor are "extra-terrestrials proof" of UFOs; the point being that everything rests on the burden of belief. People invest in what they believe and not in what they doubt. Faith is a product of fear, and one does not suspend belief above shakey ground for long.
