Vote for None: None will steal taxpayers' money.
SANTO DOMINGO.- Since its birth within the movement La Revuelta (revolt) the campaign for the candidate None grows in popularity, despite its unsuccessful efforts for the Electoral Board (JCE) to include a box in the ballots for Sunday’s congressional and municipal elections.
More than mere abstention the movement’s leaders want all citizens to go to the bolls but write a giant N on the back side of their ballot.
“None is serious, vote for None”, “None complies, vote for None,”, “None is worth, vote for None” are the slogans with which its promoters hope to entice a segment of the population which rejects the candidates of the traditional parties and of the minority ones which serve as their remoras.
None’s campaign team “has hit the streets” selling t-shirts with their logos and their slogans at 200 pesos a pop, funds which they affirm will cover operating expenses, flyers and bumper stickers.
Revuelta leader Maria del Mar Mella says although print shop owners and radio and television producers collaborate with the initiative, it counts mostly with the social networks on the Web. “The idea to create None arose in discussions in our organization. We’ve spoken for over a year about a way for critical participation in this electoral event a, but from the citizenship.”
The initiative’s promoters, mostly youngsters, are relying on tghe Internet as their weapon of choice for Sunday’s electoral battle.
From blog (http://votaporninguno.org) they promote their ideas, the same which stimulate them to hit Santo Domingo’s streets and avenues, in support of social struggles in various areas of the country, including the environmental battle some organizations wage against the mining company Barrick Gold in Cotuí (northeast) and the successful fight which led to the scrapping of the planned cement plant adjacent to the Los Haitises National Park.

What happens if you submit a ballot without a vote? Does it automatically default to the ruling party or is null and void? I think it would strange if it did, but stranger things have happened here. :)

I got a look at the JCE training manuals.
There is a quiz at the back. One of the questions is, "If you have more ballots in the box than the number of people registered to vote, what should you do?"
The correct answer, in theory, is to notify a supervisor. In practice, the answer will be, "Do nothing, try to go home as early as possible."

folks if you vote none it will be as if you did not vote, because there is no valet that indicate as such. so who ever has the majority of the vote will win so. that none is idiotic and will not serve any purpose so like i said dominicans are dumb down for lock of educations and that is the way the politicians want you to be. where is Camacho.

In that case why don't not vote for the lesser evil since by voting none will give the advantage to any candidate that have the majority. I rather do that than vote for the one that is the most corrupt or evil or for the candidate that can give that little bag of food on elections time. in that case will be the party in power.

that is why politicians have the masses dumb down so other idiots like however trying to set this policy benefits from it. how knows if that person is in conjunction with politicians. Dominicans need to grow some ball and revolt. Where are those camacho? bunch of wimps

Let 4,000,000 people vote.
When the results are in, and people see that 500,000 of them voted NINGUNO (because that is probably close to the number of people both aware of the idea and in favor of it) they will realize that these people voted to express their frustration with a system that forces us to choose between bad and worse. People will start to feel as though they are not alone. You will see a movement start to grow that will demand a change. It will take time, but at some point the voice fo the people will be heard. And that is how change will come.
Vote NINGUNO. That is a real vote for change

Juanb give me a break you know darn well that those politicians don't care. What movement you tell me, they kill the press and what make u think that they will not kill the movement. look that is the worse thing that could happen and remember there is no valet for ninguno so they will never know anything and if they do, they will silence the movement.

My guess if you mark a ballot with an "N" on it, it will be filled out by the PLD guy when the count the ballots. But I agree, if they 500,0000 people voting NUNCA it should send a strong messages to all parties which is long overdue.
From: Dominican Republic
Isn't marking "NONE" the same thing as simply not voting?. The thing is you already know that not everybody will mark "NONE". So instead of the results distributing 200,000 vs 100,000 vs 50,000 it will be 100,000 vs 50,000 vs 25,000 Same old shit.

When the people realize how we are screwed, daily, by whoever is in power, we have a chance for change.
More importantly, if the pueblo discovers that they are not satisfied with their available choices, sooner or later they will start to speak up, organize, and mobilize for change. Right now, most of us feel like we are shouting into the night. There is a sense of hopelessness. Some people are stupid enough to believe that "it is a duty to vote for the least worst candidate", without trying to bring about change. Those are the words of people willing to settle for the status quo. Those are the words of people in "the system".
Change, by itself, is just a word that politicians love to throw around. But if people actually work to bring about a change, then it is a tool for a better life for all Dominicans. Change here will start by getting people of the same mind to realize that they are not alone and NINGUNO is as good a place, as any, to start to show them they are not alone

texasshoe, please explain to me just how a no vote is a vote for someone , by default. the glory of the no vote is that it is impartial, and adds to the score of nobody at all. it is just protest, which is necessary for democracy to evolve. the DR is what can be described as a bare bones democracy, far removed from real democracies in the world. some guys have just about had it with these creatures, and the creatures need to be made aware of the discontent.
From: Dominican Republic
A "NO" vote reduces their legitimacy especially in the international arena. In the short term, nothing will change but it might awaken the population into buying a guillatine for a future election. The kind of changes that the country needs won't come about by the ballot box.
From: Dominican Republic, NEVER FORGOTTEN, NEVER FORSAKEN!
If you really wanna send a message to those in power, and those who had the power before, just vote for someone NEW and HONEST, and don't tell me there is none because we still have some good people in the political arena, people like Guillermo Moreno, Wilton Guerrero, Dominguez Brito, and perhaps somebody that is running and is not famous like those mentioned before, but are willing to do a good job for our country. Send the right message by voting against the traditional politician(PLD, PRD, PRSC, PQD, PRI, ect, ect)

A no vote won't change a damn thing.
Even if 99% vote "no" there will still be a winner and nobody will care about the "no" vote a week later.
From: United States
maybe there will be a winner, yes, but the message will get across to the general public, and it could be the start of a grass roots movement for change. it is patently obvious that the status quo is unacceptable, so, in the absence of a protest vote, please explain your alternative.

Some people have short memories.
Remember when the PLD was not one of the traditional parties? The system is rotten to the core. The political class don't get into politics to serve the nation. They get into politics to serve themselves. Nooooooooooooooooo. Noooooooooooooooo. Nooooooooooooooo!!

Of all my hundreds of Dominican friends and acquaintances , both rich and poor , there is not one person who believe the politicians in the DR are of a high ethical quality .They have such a bad reputation that it seems impossible to ever have a totally honest government or opposition . I am sure the politicians know this so why waste a vote on something that is already so well known .

My friends I will voice my opinion in this but since I am only a resident I have no vote except to leave with my family if I decide I don't want to be here with my family anymore.
If enough people vote no that is a sort of soft revolution. It is a warning that the coals of revolution are smoldering and it serves as a very direct but non violent warning shot that things need to change. That wake up call might just be enough to get things moving in a direction that will prevent a full fledged forced regime change.
