SANTO DOMINGO.- Faced with threats that political groups disgruntled with the results of last week’s elections plan actions of civil disobedience, the National Police yesterday affirmed it will guarantee public order and the citizen safety.
Spokesman Nelson Rosario said the Police is ready to confront disorders from strikes and walkouts, although no political party has officially convened pickets or mobilizations.
On the denunciation, opposition PRD party president Miguel Vargas attributes, it to the ruling PLD’s desperation, alleging that it’s that party which seeks to ignore and violate the popular will.
Call to calm
The leaders of the country’s medium industry called on the political parties, civil society and citizens in general to avert an institutional collapse which the concentration of power may lead to, after the congressional and municipal elections.
They also demanded that opposition leaders discard the pessimistic proclamations, gripes and threats of catastrophic violence, and instead to focus in being elements of development of the local governments and of balance in Congress, especially in the Chamber of Deputies.

The fear is this fluid situation could end up into a conflict as is happening in Jamaica now.
There will be groups who will seize the moment to create unrest in order to advance their own agendas. The government has to be firm but fair to maintain order and safety, allow dissenters to engage in peaceful activity and come down heavy on those who think otherwise.

The problem is that no one trusts the politicians or the judges or the police or the unions so here is a story about non trustworthy people appealing against action against other non trustworthy people and so the merry go round keeps turning until we get a justice system and a police force that is more honorable and political system that is less corrupt ...the one positive is the economic progress .

An old, worn out, discredited and toothless PRD is pulling the card from the bottom of the deck, like the good old days. Miguel Vargas is not qualified to continue as president and he is using "war tactics" from the ancient past, to consolidate his disputed hold in the PRD presidency.
I predict this is just saber rattling and trying to bluff the Junta and PLD into a negotiation with threats of civil disobedience and riots.
The populace is tired of the same old excuses and politicians being bad losers, the writing was on the wall much before the election results, as the PRD used the wrong election tactics and did not have their best candidates for office, plus had a weak and feeble complacent opposition based on polls.

Miguel Vargas needs to come to his senses and recognize that he simply doesn't have what it takes to be a leader of the party at least not by charisma or knowledge of local policies and Leonel with all his faults simply looks fresher than him. PRD needs a leader else they could become the next PRSC and a new party could come up to take PRD's spot.

Let us hope so .....get rid of both these loser parties PRD and PRSC

When a political party loses relevance, when it comes to stand for dishonesty and theft, when it is shunned by the voters (other than those with a financial interest in its success), it no longer matters if it is the "Party of Juan Perez" , the Party of Pedro Guzmann, the Party of the People, or the Party of Good times. It is irrelevant and the voters have spoken.

As the history of the DR has had it, the losing party (in this case the PRD) will do anything to get back to power if only to ascertain the fact that the leaders of their faction do not get left out of the money grabbing schemes that they once had access to.
Is the consolidation of power a good thing for the DR? Are there any non-delinquent members of the body politic?

This ridiculous people of the PRD, still are believing to be in the stage of 30 years ago, and worse, with that gangster face Vargas Maldonado, talking all that garbage crap, they are not going
to alarm or scare anybody, and I wish they would do something, and he , himself, Vargas, have the guts to go out there, so his bum can be burned for good and get rid of that fallacious and disgraceful man that only people of the PRD can send as their leader, along with that other gangster " el turquito " Jorge Mera.
