I taught English as a second language in the Dominican Republic for a little over two years.

My students ranged from 9 yrs to 64 yrs old. Most of my students fell in the 9 to 18 yr old category.
At first I was disbelieved at the age that young girls get married in the DR (13 yrs old and up), and its like no big deal among the Dominicans as long as you are not “AMERICAN” (translated into Spanish “Lots of Money).
