SANTO DOMINGO.- The US Southern Command Operations Chief said Wednesday the worldwide spike in drug trafficking is reason for concern, but noted that the war against the crime is a common cause for all countries.
General Héctor Pagán called drug trafficking a common enemy which concerns us all and we must work jointly to fight it.
He said the US Government firmly supports the nations which wage war against drug trafficking. “It seems to me it’s that way because our government has decided so.”
In that regard Armed Forces minister Pedro Rafael Peña proposed that the countries affected by drug trafficking form a bloc to unite their efforts and expand the interchange operations to make the fight more effective
The senior officers spoke during the start of military exercises which Dominican Republic hosts for around 19 countries, with 500 military and police agents from the region taking part.

Is that Blu in the white suite holding up an AK47?
He has been MIA since the 13th.

I would normally have believed this general however after recent findings of the infiltration of the narcotics industry being protected by the DR military and a silent president on this issue you have to wonder if these statements even have a filament of truth to them.

The military of each country has a distinctly different goal. The US military wants to eradicate the drug traffic and the DR military likes it just the way it is, and wants to see it continue.

Back to the topic. I remember back in the 80's early 90's when New York City was engulfed in a big Drug War. During this same time our country used to be a peaceful country totally reverse of what transpired today between DR and NYC. One of the reasons was that drugs were treated as something of a taboo by our population back then. We used to hold high values that branded anybody dealing with drugs as lower than a cockroach. Even though our law enforcement took their usual bribe back then they will never take one cent if they knew it came from drugs to the contrary they will empty their gun on anybody dealing drugs. That was the mentality instill by the Government in dealing with Drugs during that Era. .

Years back I was stopped [blocked road] by the Dominican Army while in route to La Romana from Santo Domingo, at first I thought Oh $h-- a group of renegades all dressed mostly in mixed camo uniforms and most in uniform were out of uniform, weapons were mostly rusted mossberg 12 ga. and a few FN-FALs I would even be afriad to shot [rag-tag] then I thought an FTX nope ! most asked for money and food. Then an LT. showed up I show him my I.D then told me I could leave.
Later while driving to La Romana I couldn't help but think...thats the Dominican armed forces ? yet the LT. wore his uniform pressed neat, spit shine jump boots, new 45 cal. and dressed to impress, we have a very long long way to go.

Rio,
That is so funny. Same thing happened to me the very first time I came to the Dr. I was in a rental car (big mistake) traveling from POP airport to Santiago. They had a road block at the circle in Navarette. They came to me and I presented all my documents and the cop said that everything was in order but he just kept looking at me. I asked my friend what he wanted and she said just give him some money so I gave him 3 pesos and I was on my way. It scared the hell out of me because there was a guy in an SUV that was in front of me had guns drawn on him.
And yes they all have rusty old sawed off shotguns and most of the don't even have shells

All take extra care when driving in the DR.

What your uncle said holds true. I learned the same.
Now when they try to pull me over, I punch it and act as though I did not even see them.
It's the Dominican way. They don't have enough gas in their car or motorcycle to chase you down.
And two way radios are unheard of in the DR. They use their cell phones if they have minuets.
The DR is a great country; you just need to learn how to live in it.

Now if you see the police in camouflage on the road around la Romana , I suggest you stop as they have very modern weapons and the reason they are is because the drug drops were along the la Romana bi pass road that forms the Coral Autopisto ..it is really scary to meet them at night and to have them look inside your vehicle with their torches but they are trying their best I think ..it is not total corruption here .

I think they should get a little bit of credit considering how much they are gettin paid and the conditions they have to work in.
From: United States, I believe that Chillaxin was right!!! a commie but right
I like i said b4, if the U.S. wanted to do something about the drugs coming into DR they would station a battle ship or Carrier on the out skirt of DR and that ship with its radar and its fighter pilots and helicopter could take care of it. No one, I mean no one.. Will try to fly some bs plan full of drugs around the southern parts of the Caribbean if the U.S. would do so..
If you can sneak pass the U.S. Military with a plain full of coke then you can sneak into the U.S. with a Nuke!!!! I mean really ? think about it, do they really want to stop this?

You cant station a carrier for that purpose its simply not its main function. Thats why coast guards exist. To make sure no one goes into our territorial waters and to keep illegal immigrants out as well as these drugs.
That was the purpose of the super tucanos purchase which up to now has yielded some success. I do believe these planes have to be shot down to send a stern message. But I also think the latter should be used on ships as well as submarines that these drug cartels are actually using. If we had a death penalty for drug traffickers they would think twice about trying that. But whenever someone things of that then theres someone else bitchin about human rights when all your trying to do is get rid of garbage like that.
