SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic’s war on drug trafficking was again lauded by U.S., in this occasion by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) representative Nelson González in an international forum hosted by Washington.

Speaking in a meeting to inaugurate the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, the official cited the 1,130 kilos of cocaine seized recently, in a joint action by Dominican and U.S. authorities.

Gonzalez also affirmed the effectiveness of Dominican Republic’s programs to reduce the demand through a Strategic Plan on Drugs, though the National Drugs Council (CND).

CND president Feliz Mabel, the Presidency’s adviser on Drugs Marino Vinicio Castillo, Dominican ambassador Roberto Saladín and Rafael Guillermo Guzmán Police, among others, were present in the activity held May 27 in the U.S. capital, headed by Undersecretary of State for Hemispheric Affairs Arturo Valenzuela.

The Caribbean Basin Security Initiative was proposed in the 2009 Summit of the Americas by U.S. president Barack Obama and region representatives to fight crime and violence related to drug trafficking and the threats to regional security and stability.

Despite the repeated praise by the U.S. of the local efforts against drugs, the Dominican Government’s desire that Washington provide air surveillance radars to detect planes loaded with drugs hasn’t been answered.

I guess these folks from Washington haven't been reading the headlines from here on Dominican Today.

Unfortunately, the drug war is a lost cause. Drugs will always flow, no matter what! there will always be people that want to make a quick buck, and they will never say no to drugs!

I'll bet.

Washington is happy that the drugs are now bottlenecked in the DR. Just like they did in Mexico in 2001. How did that help Mexico? It created an internal market for those warehoused drugs and ten years later Mexico is in the throes of a thousand battles over drug turf. The drug runners will now move to Haiti as the DR slips into the footsteps of Mexico. The US is killing the World with it's thirst for illegal drugs and its failed drug policy.

Prohibition doesn't work.

So, the money spent on planes to combat airborn drugs was useless and what happened to the radar equipment donated by the USA..... What type of games are these, the shananigans must stop Mr. fernandez.. These games makes us all look bad. The lack of competence is rediculous. Whats even more hilarious is that one part of the government says "WE GOT IT UNDER CONTROL" and another part of the gov is begging for HELP. I don't see Leonilda fernadean asking for help or guidence on spending borrowed money.

Why don't we just let the U.S Military run the country. Obviously the dominican government is not capable of handling the task at hand

Send in more DEA Agents. Obviously this is beyond the skill level of the DNCD or Dominican military.
