SANTO DOMINGO. - 89 journalists rebuked on Sunday senior government official and political leader Héctor Rodriguez Pimentel’s “offensive” to silence reports on his alleged corruption and warned the Government that it cannot remain indifferent.

They said the Government cannot wash its hands of this attack because the offensive comes from president Leonel Fernandez’s political ally, and of the ruling PLD party.

The media professionals called Rodriguez Pimentel’s action an offensive at the highest level against freedom of the press which must be rejected not only by reporters but by all concerned with the survival of democratic values.

They said the action seeks to drown one of the Dominican media’s highest voices characterized for investigating and denouncing government corruption and for demanding transparency and rendering of accounts.

“This attempt to cut the media’s economic sustenance at the source constitutes a serious attack not only against freedom of the press and expression, but also against Dominican society’s right to information,” the said in reference to warnings sent to advertisers of the journalist Alicia Ortega’s program “El Informe,” by Rodríguez Pimentel, director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute, called “pathologically corrupt” by the head of the Anticorruption Department, Hotoniel Bonilla.

The very least the president can do is to suspend Pimental from his duties until the results of his hearing are made public. This guy is an embarrassment to the president and the country. He needs to be taken out of the way.

Do it. Get that empty suit piece of shit to show some integrity.

Journalist Alicia Ortega is the countries ONLY social hero. For her to be silenced is the death knell for this fourth world country.

Nothing will happen. The unwillingness of LF to punish the member of his inner circle is unprecedented. Mark my words.

Case and point: Radhames Seguras was sent somewhere else after he plundered the CDEE.

If this guy did what Alicia alleges, he should be in jail. Why isn't he?

The Dominican Society and Journalist are better off petitioning the UN to come in and take over the Anti-Corruption Department and throw all the bums out instead of picking on just one bad apple in the barrel.

LF's attitude is what is the use of throwing this dirt bag out when the replacement could be even worse.
It is time to call the entire Dominican Government "Pathologically Corrupt" instead of just one politician because the replacement is always just as bad!

So Journalist, Please put a helmet on and get in the Game!

This is why I blame our President. His lack of commitment to bring these criminals to justice only brings one conclusion. He is involved or owes these people favors for things he has done that we don't know about. We need better leadership if our country is ever to move ahead for everyone not just a few people.
