Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Air Force expects to receive no later than August the last six of eight Super Tucano combat planes bought in Brazil mainly to fight drug trafficking.

Dominican Air Force Chief of staff Carlos Altuna Tezanos said Tuesday that three aircraft will arrive in the country from July 18 to 20, whereas the remaining three will arrive in August.

He said the two Super Tucanos which have been in the country since December have contributed to reduce drug airdrops from planes along the Caribbean coast. The official added that only seven drug airdrops have taken place in the last four months.

They would have been better off buying one F16 rather than the 6 Super Clunkers.

What a Joke.

The joke is on the Dominican people. Leonel stated that all eight had been delivered. Now you find out only 2. I guess that is what happens when you don't pay your bills.

How do they know that there were "only" seven drops in the last four months. Were they monitoring them. Were the drugs taken into custody? Were the people who received it arrested? Is anybody out there?

WTF ! That is seven airdrops that the FAD/DNCD are aware of. How many drops were undetected? What a joke.

3 years to deliver 8 Super Tucano planes appears to be a very long delivery. Just my thought. Is the worldwide demand for Brazilian plane from Embrear that great ?

Super Tucanos are cheaper to maintain which is why they are being purchased plus they are prop planes which makes them great as far as maintenance goes. For every hour a f15 flies it has to spend 2 hours in the hanger for repairs and maintenance.

I think if they make good on their promise to shoot down this bastards bringing drugs and such its a great purchase. They are also able to carry side winders and an array of munitions much like their jet counterparts. When DR becomes more financially stable in another 500 years when haitians stop coming to the country then we will see a better equipt army, air force and navy not to mention a good coast guard.

P.S I was joking about the haitian thing hahahaha just thought it was funny since all they do is burn down their trees and come to DR to try and do the same and roam around in the streets beggin for money and pullin the race card among other things. hahaha :)

I agree with you CW. Make it legal and that would give the governments ways to control it and tax it.

The war on drugs is nothing more than a smoke screen set up by the United States so they can make money from it.

It would be nice to fire up a big Jamaican blunt while sitting at the beach watching the sun set.
