SANTO DOMINGO.- The start today Thursday of the proceedings prior a criminal trial against the fugitive Puerto Rican Jose Figueroa Agosto is the third major drug trafficking case in as many years, after a plea barging with New York Federal prosecutors by Paulino Quirino in 2007 and the 2008 murders of seven Colombians in Paya, Bani (south).
National District 2nd Second Instruction Court interim judge Pilades Hernandez will preside over the hearing starting 9 a.m. against nine others indicted on money laundering and narcotics trafficking charges, and will take place in the National District 1st Court of Appeals for reasons of space and security.
Scheduled to appear will be Madeline Bernard, wife of the latte colonel Jose Amado González, who was gunned down on December 24, and Adolfina Peláez (Dolfi), who is free on bail; the Najayo prison detainees Mary Peláez, Eddy Brito Martinez, Ricardo Ivanovich Smester and Juan Jose the Fernandez Ibarra, as well as Sammy Dauhajre who was released on bond last night.
Also ordered to appear were the also fugitives Sobeida Felix and Leavy Yadira Nin.
On Wednesday Justice minister Radhamés Jiménez announced heightened measures during the hearing in the Ciudad Nueva courthouse.

It's BRIBE time.
let see how much judge Pilades Hernandez get$$$ out of this one.
I am not negative person, but for DR....
DR is protecting criminals, corruption officials, drug dealers.....you name it, and ruins the life of nice regular Dominicans...
I used to believe Mr. L. F., but after few years observing his performance, I think he is good in the "Talk Show."
Quirino was extradited and dealt with by the US, so no comparison here. Anyways, in may book, it was a major flop because no big fish was caught.
The Bani case is ridiculous, everybody will die of old age before anything serious happens.
The so called Figueroa case: if anybody is to be found guilty, it would be of money laundering complicity, no big deal. Everybody out by Christmas, we need the jail space for people who drink on the sidewalks.
