Santo
Domingo.– The "Police, don't kill me, I’ll stop" campaign is storming
the Internet, mainly in the social networks Twitter, Facebook and Hi-5,
as a
growing protest against recent killings by the National Police.
At least
three people have been killed by police agents for failing to stop
during
random checks along highways and streets.

Having been subjected first hand to the heart stopping experience of police with rifles , in the middle of the night , standing on a dark road, waving to stop , I am all for immediate action to stop this practice . My experience was different as there were at least 6 policemen and to have tried to drive on would have been obvious folly but there has to be a public protest against the police killing of innocent people and maybe this is the start of something bigger.
I hope so

In any country in the world, if the police tell ONE to stop, you stop, unless you are in the wrong. It seeing that theirs a campaign out-there to take awaits the momentum of the police offensive against crime…. finance by?

Antonio ,,I agree that you have to stop ..but when the police are deliberately waiting in dark places , it is easy to think they have bad motives ..

One of the first instructions I received from the locals upon entering the country for the first time about 25 years ago was "do not stop for the police". I was informed to be cautious, especially at night, because the "police" may not be police but robbers in police clothing. The next instruction was do not stop for the police practicing traffic stops. This was at a time when the policia national stood at the roadside under those ridiculous white pith helmuts, with a citation book in hand, and attempted to pull you over to shake you down. The silly part about all this was they were on foot and had no chase vehicle. So why stop !!!!
The poor professional and at times corrupt behavior of the police since that time and now has instilled a infectous mistrust of them by the general public. The police are going to have to make a complete 180° turn from their present character and stick to it before they can even gain a little respect from the people.

" In the middle of the night and on dark roads " unless you have an emergency , it is the time and the place for police, prostitutes and thieves.
In the middle of the night regular Dominicans should keep their culos at home.

Once about 4 men that were dressed and armed like policemen had a barricade in the early morning foggy roads of Constanza, and waved and signaled for me to stop.
My conservation instinct said otherwise, and instead I pressed the accelerator in my jipeta and went by as fast as I could, as they scrambled for cover. Later I found out it was a band of thieves and kidnappers, looking for a new prey, and some were captured, and a couple were killed, many days later after another failed attempt.
This is not the first instance, they have been many cases of robbers dressed and impersonating as policemen, holding up cars to steal from the passengers, and hijack the car.
Never stop for any reason, unless there is a justifiable cause and only during the day, if it is not an isolated road, and there are plenty of witnesses and traffic.

PN must produce a national campaign for all medias to promote as a public service announcement. This should outline the guidelines of all legit road block standards for PN and/or Military. For example:
A) All roadblocks will have at least 5 uniformed officials present (in full view).
B) All roadblocks will be in well lit areas (including portable streetlights) during hours of darkness.
C) Any roadblock between 12:00 AM - 5:00 AM will be made with the conditions above plus the roadblock will be made by having two official PN/Military 4 wheel vehicles blocking the roadway for a full stop requirement (no exceptions).
D) All roadblock operations will be simultaineously video taped by authorities and media (TV/Radio/Print) for record purposes in the event of a conflict.
If the roadblock does not meet the above requirements above, Run for Your life

The advice that is given by generoso and which is the standard procedure here in the DR is why the people in Samana died ,,one has to ask why the police in Samana were waiting in an unlit area . I totally agree with Juango that there has to be some standards set and not simply two police men with rifles waiting in the dark .

what you need is the same program i am trying to institute here in the states you can not pass the 6th grade if you can not follow these comands FLAWLESLY
1 STOP 2 ASSUME THE POSTION (stand straight up) 3 LACE YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD 4 TAKE 3 STEPS BACKWARDS TOWARDS MY VOICE (THIS CAN BE CONSIDERED A TRICK QUESTION DUE TOTHE FACT MOST PEOPLE CAN'T COUNT PAST 1) 5 LOWER YOUR SELF TO YOUR KNEES (while still haing your hands lace behind your head) 6 FOR EXTRA CREDIT LAY PRONE ON THE GROUND AND STREACH YOUR ARMS OUT STRAGHT (90 DEGS) FROM YOUR BODY WITH YOUR PALMS UP
no kid should be able to graduate if they can not cmplete these comands, this wll probable save there live later on
now in the DR this should be implimented when you get your divers license or any other licensing /certification this will definely stop the need for exsesive force by the police, teach some physical education/cordination, not to mention weed out some of the REALLY STUPID PEOPLE

Every one is very brave until they are faced up with these situations ,...it is not much different than the delinquents putting up a rope or steel bar across the road in bad barrios and trying to get motor bikes and cars to stop so they can rob..you actually have to decide in a split second what to do .
