SANTO DOMINGO.- Government Ethics Commission president Marino Vinicio Castillo on Thursday affirmed the United States knew that the murder convict Jose Figueroa Agosto, now being held in a Puerto Rican “high security” prison, was in the country since 2001.

He said if Dominican authorities don’t attack the structure which protected Figueroa’s crime network, in just a short time would arise a similar organization which operated unchecked in the country during 10 years, in his view supported by sectors entrenched in echelons of power, mainly the police and the military.

“If Figueroa’s protection structure isn’t attacked we’re going to have another Figueroa in a short term with a different name. No one can assume that Figueroa escaped from Puerto Rico in 1999 and sentenced to 209 years in jail could come here and become the king of cocaine without important enclaves of power, civilian, military and police,” he said.

Castillo said since 2001 US authorities knew that the murder convict, now being held in a Puerto Rican “high security” prison, of his presence here and that on one believes he could walk Santo Domingo’s streets without the support of important sectors.

The official said he’s confident this case wouldn’t end up like with Quirino Paulino, who despite having confessed to smuggling 33 tons of cocaine to that country, the revelation should’ve led to the extradition of powerful people who protected him, though “six years later they’ve done nothing.”

He said the only ones the Americans took were the “petty thieves” and given the country’s institutional weakness hopes their “powerful” judicial structure can extradite those linked to the “Puerto Rico Cartel,” which he affirms operate the inter-island cocaine trafficking platform.

Vinicio changes his tune all the time as he simply seems to forget what he has said before .He has said that the USA has protected Figueroa during the years he cause havoc in the DR , he has said that Figueroa was hidden in the DR, then he has said that he cannot be in the DR. He has said that the shooting of the restaurant owner had nothing to Figueroa although it was proved other wise and he has done absolutely nothing to bring forward those government officials who were assisting Figueroa ,,including the corrupt ex army officer working (thrown out of the USA) in the Presidents offices .
In fact he has just bleated like a sheep and that is what he is doing now ..what he is now saying is what everyone knows ,,,that the corrupt government officials have to be weeded out and dealt with severely

First of all retards.

"Government Ethics Commission " is a contradiction in terms when referring to Dominicans.

It is the Dominican government that is polluted with the pathologically corrupt. It is the Dominican government that protected this person and many others.

Get some ball boys and do it yourself.

If the US objectively did anything, it would be to nuke half the island.

Vincho's title is President of DR Government Ethics Commission.

No wonder that Lie-onel flunk in every aspect of his performance.

Frankly, after all the crap that the Government has ben issuing over the past 15 years, it would seem that the US would just "wash their hands" of all matters Dominican and let the slimy ooze take over everything,
If ALL aid andassistance were to be withdrawn, the DR would sink into the Caribbean along with Haiti and the world would be much better off by thier removal from the International scene.
none of the Governments of the DR have EVER done anything worthwhile for Latin America, the Caribbean, or for themselves, so why continue to offer support. Let the country go Bankrupt, sink into anarchy, then see if they have the fortitude to effect a social and economic recovery.
I doubt seriously if that can be done.
