Will Fidel Castro live to see the end of the embargo?
Zoom Picture

HAVANA.- Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales yesterday affirmed that Dominican Republic favors lifting the embargo imposed by the US on Cuba, that country’s official agency Prensa Latina reported yesterday.

He said Santo Domingo has always stated its position against “Washington’s hostility.”

The top Dominican diplomat also said only Cuba is missing in the Cotonou Agreement signed in 2000 between the European Union (EU) and 78 of its former colonies. “We’re coherent with the economic association agreement which the Caribbean Community (Caricom) signed with the EU, and which excluded that island (Cuba). We’ve always said Havana should be in it.”

Maybe so but the fact remains that an embargo is tantamount to an act of war...Besides, the embargo is used effectively by the Cuban regime to create an "us versus them" mantality among the Cuban population. After nearly half a century its hight time someone in Washington realizes that it is a failed policy and change it. Engagement on all levels, rather than isolation, would hasten the regime's demise.

Just as I thought LF the middle man between Cuba & the U.S.

I'm not Cuban.....but, why not start by sending Haitians to Cuba while Haiti is being rebuilt and since Castro has outlived his rivals Castro must put the past in the past I say OUT WITH OLD, IN WITH THE NEW retireing of the Castros then I could see the opening up of Cuban relations w/ the U.S.

LF must remember......reality is Cuba can rival the DR economy in alot of aspects.

Castro has used the United States as an excuse to justify his dictatorship for the past half century. If there is no enemy even if is only in his mind and those cubans that still believe or fear him then there is no war and the system collapses .

Regarding the embargo is only simbolic since castro can import anything he wants from everywhere else, one catch no country will sell him on credit he has to pay in cash or no deal. Many of those countries that today support castro's system wont sell him on credit (I wonder why)

The United States has the right to sell or not to any country they want.

It is the typical US bull shit..

Do as I say.. Not as I do

The Americans have been trading with Cuba for years. US Ships leave from Mississippi and Alabama on a weekly basis (C.O.D.).

It is time for the US to lift the embargo and let Cuba be free.

Rainman,
Yes you are correct.....but notice how I said X the Castro's thus there power on the Cuban People for by doing so then and only then a better free Cuba will emerge.

Cuba prior to there down the drain revolution under Castro was a once prosperous Nation, Cuba has the potentcial to rival the DR in many ways but NEVER under their current rule.

The new generation of Cubans 45 years old plus have been indoctrenated from birth into a one system only......in other words the Cubans themselves don't even understand there own full possible economic potencial.

ElPorfe,
One first must totally free the Cuban People of total Government oppression then and only then you'll have a free Cuba to choose her own future threw freedom.
Castro has done more harm to Cuba and her People on a massive scale then prior to the Cuban Revolution.

. Boca Chica child molester tried in Florida TODAYS DR1.
Robert John Marone, 49, of Wilton Manors, Florida was deported from the DR recently to face charges of sexual exploitation of children. He appeared in federal court in Florida on Monday. He was ordered to be held without bond by Magistrate William Turnoff. On March 6, Marone was seen in the Dominican Republic inside a white Nissan with four young boys, aged 5 to 15, the complaint said. Federal authorities accuse him of taking lewd pictures of four young boys with their genitals exposed. The Dominican authorities seized Marone's camera and on it they found 16 pictures of the boys, 13 of which showed them in various sexual poses and exposing themselves

Cuba is beyond hope. Not because of the US Embargo and the lack of US Citizens as tourists but because of the OUTLAW government. Every other country trades with Cuba as well as every other countries tourists are able to go to Cuba and only recently US tourists found the DR. The DR competed for tourists with Cuba and won hands down before the US tourists arrived in bulk.

Communism has failed but this outlaw government of the Castro brothers who have not been benevolent dictators have imprisoned their people. both physically and mentally. They live in fear and they live in poverty on government handouts.

Culturally and educationally the Cubans are advanced. Other than that there is NO infrastructure there whatsoever and is miles behind the DR in a 1 mile race.

Mr Carlos Morales is absolutely correct : The embargo has not proven a thing agaist the regime.
It was created by then senator of NJ (Robert Torricelli) bribed by the Cubans on exile.who was eventually thrown out of office.
If the Miami Cubans or (gusanos) want to get rid of the regime why don't they do what the Dominicans did with (EL CHIVO, ALIAS CHAPITAS )and shoot the guy if they hate HIM that much?

As always, they want some one else to do the dirty work while they live in luxury in MIAMI .They have to remember there no more GER. NAXIMO GOMEZ and 5000 Dominicans to come and
fight on their behalf. To my estimate the greatest Cuban of those days fighting for independence
was ANTONIO MASEO whose father was VENEZUELAN and mother HAITIAN. The youngest of 5 brothers who all died in the revolution by getting rid of the Spaniards yoke .His mother said to
young ANTONIO "crese rapido que la patria te espera" Under Maximo Gomez this young CUBAN
born cut down more Spaniards

Thelmo the use of the word gusanos in your writing tells me exactly where you are coming from.
Regarding the embargo any country has the right to trade with another or not. Unfortunately for Cuba no country will give them credit (no ticket no laundry) .
You fail to mention the intervention of all american owned assets in Cuba by the Castro regime as the main cause of the U.S. embargo.

Regarding your statement that cubans want someone else do do their dirty work you are so wrong about it, yes we have had many great patriots of foreing roots yet we have countless cubans willing to give their lives for freedom. Check your facts and see how many died in Viet Nam, Korea, etc.

heads than all .
Why didn't they make him president ?I will tell you why ,he was MULATO like our MELLAS and the Cubans were then,as now prejudist, they decided to elect as president an alcoholic poet because he was white and educated and never led combat. "JOSE MARTI as HOSTOS and DUARTE ,

Up to BATISTA'S time no black or MULATO was allowed to hold public office .Those (GUSANOS)that left for exile hoped to get their polical reign back once the Castros brother pass on which will not be the case, since the education standard has chaged in the ISLAND.Black people up to that time were not counted in the national sensus and were called AFRO-CUBANS, If you look at their sensus provided to the UN in 1952 they will tell you CUBA had only 3% black, the rest were all white. No diferent from the present DR gvt is doing with HAITIANS (people in transit). I guess LF has not looked at himself real close in a mirror and see himself for what he is a MULATO ,No diferent than Obama.

Blutarsky and Rainman:
As far as the PUERTO RICANS and the MEXICANS i saw plenty of, while serving in the US ARMY in 1959-1962. What i did not see was CUBANS , The PR had no choice since they are a territory of the USA and were drafted, plus those that made a profession as soldiers from Korea left over from porkchop hill. The PR were very good cadree or instructors with hands on combat.
At that time when US was building up an army to invade CUBA which never materialized for knowing reasons, the bay of pigs (bahia de cochinos) took place and the (GUZANOS) blamed the US for their failure and the US air Force for not giving them air support. They know dam well they were provoking a WW 3, Had the US intervened with the SOVIETS waiting for us with nuclear weapons.
Again guys am talking about GUZANOS to topple over the Castro regime as we did in DR, when Trujillo got killed by DOMINICANS.

To call the victims of the longest tyranny in the hemisphere "gusanos" is disgusting at best,of course all the supporters of the regime in Cuba live in the comfort and freedom of democracies !

As far as racism ,there is no high ranking member of the Cuban regime who is an Afro-descendant and most of the jineteras (hookers) are dark skinned while the hotel staff at the front desk is usually light skinned.

As far as the embargo ,many people confuse an embargo with a blockade which is wrong ,the US and any nation has the right to trade or not to trade with any nation. Many nations have trade with Cuba but because of the failures of their socialist system they have no money to buy anything.

Now as far as the situation within the DR with an ILLEGAL FOREIGN population ,only an idiot (or an afronazi) would compare the two!! We have every right to maintain our borders and all Dominicans regardless of colour our counted ...but Haitians are not Dominicans !

I wish the coast guards could intersept the narco traffic coming from SA as well as they do the Haitian and Dominican boat people,or is not to their interest?
As far as me being an idiot and an(AFRO-NATZI) .I have to let you know am not black am white and believe in democracy ,but not the one you practice in DR .
With all the border patrol of 6 brigades and another 6 of so called policemen you claim you have .how come you have 500,000 Haitians in DR illegaly since the Haiti's earth quake? how come you have more bush fires since before to make charcoal?, To my knowledge Dominicans don't make charcoal for fuel If we are going to talk about a police State figures speak for themselve!

So now we are responsable for the Haitians flooding into our borders when the US (the most powerful nation on earth ) cannot stop the flow from it's southern borders!!

Our laws are our laws and nobody has a right to interfere with our designation of people who enter illegally into our country .Haitians in our country and their children are not Dominicans and if they don't like it they can just walk back to Haiti.

As far as you being white ,that is not verifiable and even if you were "white" you are obviously a member of the sinister ideology which makes white men hate whites and makes them into feminists so please spare me..

I say we deport ,and if necessary use force to seal the border and let the commies and bleeding hearts say what they want because no matter what they will always be against us .
