SANTO DOMINGO. - As a beauty queen would before her swooning fans Sobeida Felix flashes the now famous smile and the measured head gestures before the cameras, while she waits the start of a trial in the case that includes at least four gangland murders.
When journalists asked how she felt the ex fugitive responded “very well” while engaging in lively banter with her attorney Felix Portes, seated beside her, together with the co-defendants the sisters Mary and Dolphy Peláez.
The accused of laundering money for her Puerto Rican paramour Jose Figueroa Agosto is apparently becoming the media’s darling, many of which refer to her by her first name and hold off asking tough questions.
Felix, escorted by several hooded agents to the rear door of the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse around 9:20 a.m. Friday wearing a bullet-proof vest and a helmet. She was taken to the jail in the fourth floor of the building and transferred to the courtroom one hour later.
She’ll appear before National District Second Instruction Court judge Claribel Nivar Arias, who’ll hear the prosecution’s charges against her and eight others in the Figueroa money laundering case.

They don't have nothing on her, the money laundering charge will not stick they have to prove she was actually washing money, none of the senior officials arrested today will want to speak out against her in fear on incriminating themselves. Figi is in PR, her only fear who be the sisters and they seem to holding their ground. Every body else is dead or left the country. so I say her chances are very good in getting off or getting 5 years max. the US won't send Figi over here he owes them 200 years plus he would be at risk of getting killed, they are better off using him to get the big willies who were protecting him and maybe get out in 20 years, another Frank Lucas story.

That man has the goods on plenty of higher ups and not just in the DR - Colombia whoever sends the stuff, Venezuela where they fly it out of and the US and the EU and Russia where they deal it.
The DR folks are just bit players in this tragicomedy.
Figueroa holds all the cards at this point. Sadly for him he will probably have to live on a government pension somewhere in Idaho, USA but it beats the overcrowded PR Pens.
