SANTO DOMINGO. - The United States pledged to assist the Dominican Republic regarding the aid sent to Haiti’s quake victims, said US Undersecretary for Population, Refugees and Immigration Affairs on Tuesday.

Eric Schwartz said the commitment includes Dominican private and charitable organizations which are providing help on the Haitian side.

The US official, who described the more than one hour meeting with president Leonel as very positive, praised the country’s leadership in Haiti’s reconstruction and the humanitarian effort for the victims.

The American public servant said he didn’t deal with topics such as drug trafficking or Dominican Republic possibly receiving Cuban political prisoners during his meeting Fernandez.

Local media report that Schwartz arrived in the National Palace under heavy security.

This was inevitable and I feel the USA must have hinted at this some time earlier ..it is a very good news story and I am glad the helping hand to our neighbours has not gone unnoticed by the rich nations

LF must be thrilled......money for aide to Haiti via the DR.

Can we at least get the total dollar amount to be donated with a list of the private organizatiions and a complete audit follow-up, or am I asking for too much ?

Why not provide that 10% a free ride to Cuba and Venezuela for that great way of life with free top notch health care.

"ok boys and girls you know your alphabet" are you talking about the alphabets from a box of post alphabet cereal or the1000 letter limit on the DT posting ?
I for one think the 1000 letter limit is O.K
