Presidents Preval and Fernandez have established a strong relationship.
Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- Prior to the work of the Mixed Bilateral Commission whose inaugural is on Saturday in Haiti, president Leonel Fernandez met in the National Palace yesterday with US Under Secretary for Population, Refugees and Immigration Affairs, Eric Schwartz.

He visited the chief executive to convey greetings to the Dominican Republic for the leadership in the efforts toward Haiti’s reconstruction, after the January 12 quake.

Fernandez will travel to Haiti Saturday together with several officials, to meet with his par René Préval.

Commenting on that gathering Foreign Relations minister Carlos Morales said the country is ready to begin the work of the Commission created for several years ago to deal with the topics of trade, immigration and the environment between Haiti and Dominican Republic. "The commission is working intensely and all the works will begin next Saturday.”

The gathering to initiate the works will take place Saturday afternoon and the Dominican government will deliver the inaugural speech.

Préval and Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive will receive Fernandez and his delegation in Cape Haitien, for the first top level dialogue between Santo Domingo and Port-au-Prince in history.

Now we'll see what they have been cooking for the perennial problems between Haiti and DR. I predict Dominican acceptance of a percentage of the multi-generational immigrant community in DR. Haiti acceptance and identity for many Haitians living in DR. A number of cross-border projects dealing with re-forestation, sanitation, etc. That University promised by DR may also be part of the package. And foreign money to pay for the construction. A mini-version of the tens of Billion dollars program that has kept the peace between Israel and Egypt. Basically, DR and Haiti will insulate their disagreements within a donor program that distributes money to each for good behavior. A sort of Pavlov maneuver in development. If so, it has a far better chance to succeed than any other alternative available. And Jimmy, this complex issue IS one of the most important problems facing the DR. So LF, IS dealing with a fundamental problem that carries important national interests concerns.

Well brother I understand how you may feel by saying Leonel fix his own problem, I'm human I know the frustration the Dominican people is going through the illegality of the Haitian people living in the Dominican Republic.
You better know that in the next ten years or so the Dominican Republic will be the most properous country in America so this is the time to prepare the landscape, you should be proud of him playing his role as mediator in certain issue perharps he has common sense to do so.
Just support him please.

From: Dominican Republic, I dislike all politicians and their afiliated parties... "I simply say it AS IT IS!!"
I do believe DR will be a pretty stable country after all of this is set and done. Just look at Israel and Eqypt. And other countries that went through the same situation.

The key is to Re-Educate everyone, Dominicans and Haitians....

No piti Etienne what we are suffering from is HOPS Haitian over-population syndrome and HBSF Haitian Bullshit Fatigue ...We are tired of Haitians coming into our forum and making Haiti the crux of all debates ...Frankly without the Haitians most of us wouldn't care except for the overwhelming legion that enters our country without permission!

El síndrome de hastía de Haitianos SHH

pepe only articles on Haiti and Haitian posters keep you energized .
You could care less about crime in the DR and post your concerns

Only the names Haitian and Haiti get you an erection.

If this forum was designed for Dominicans exclusively, they would have said it.

The past , present and future of Haitians and Dominicans are intertwined unless an earthquake split the island in two seperate islands along the Haitian Dominican border.

DEAL WITH IT JACK !!!

etienn Haiti and Haitians are the #1 problem in DR , unfortunately you are right that we are stuck with the cancerous growth on our western side . As far as the forum goes it is not exclusively Dominican but it should be Dominican centric and your people are so shameless that they flood this forum in the way they flood my country . Believe me ,the thought of haitians is the anti-viagra to me and most Dominicans and if so many of you were not in DR we would not even think of Haiti at all but it is hard to avoid especially with the current tidal wave in my home city of Santiago.

I hope you are practising words like perejil ettienn because you may be asked in the near future and I have taken a liking to your dry comedy unlike your more viscous and common countrymen .I also see a sincere affection for my country on your part although your allegiance is torn with your allegiance to Haiti which clouds your mind as far as Dominican interests go.
