SANTO DOMINGO.- National Police chief Rafael Guzmán has been identified by Ruth Sanchez Vargas, the fiancée of the son of Arturo del Tiempo Marques, as a friend and associate of the Spaniard being held in his country charged with smuggling more than 1,200 kilos of cocaine from the Dominican Republic, news source clavedigital.com reports.

She said they took part in activities in the posh resort Casa de Campo together with their close relatives, and called it “a close relation” between Guzmán and del Tiempo.

Under interrogation by the Justice Ministry, copy of which news source clavedigital.com says it has access to, Sanchez reveals that as fruit of that relation with del Tiempo, the official “was going to buy an apartment” in the luxury building Torre Atiema, built by del Tiempo.

“With the entire family of the Police Chief we got to play together in a golf match in La Romana, and his entire family was there: there was Arturo (del Tiempo), Isabel (del Tiempo) and us. I hadn’t said this before because since the purchase of the apartment was denied, I don’t want to see myself involved in a situation…,” she said.

As to the now confiscated apartment retained by the Reservas bank, Sanchez said Guzmán “was going to buy the 18 East, the one which has a view the sea. That was the information my fiancée gave me that he was going to live there with his family and supposedly he would pay 900,000 dollars.”

In the interrogation of March 25 Sanchez reveals how she knew the foreigner and provides details of his family’s behavior, and the fact that she visited the building Atiemar at least 12 times and that she knew its security chief, nicknamed “Juancho el Loco (crazy person), but who is Jose Estévez, who as a lieutenant colonel who worked in San Francisco de Macorís (northeast) when Guzmán was that region’s Commander, and when the now Police Chief was called “the Surgeon,” for the numerous suspects maimed after agents shot off their kneecaps.

And the beat goes no. What a shocker.

But there is NO sense in finding out and sending him to jail. The Dominican way, hear no evil, see no evil, say no evil... give the man a medal.. if you could fit another one on that gaudy uniform.

now let us look at this objectively .I may be very concerned about the problems of law and order and corruption but what did the police chief do wrong here . he played golf with a man who was considered to be respectable , he was to buy an apartment for $ 900,000 which seems a reasonable , if not extravagant price and he provided the Spaniard with a former police officer for security of the building ,,As it happens , there were many people who thought this Spaniard was honest and respectable and who were surprised by his drug connections .
I have no love of this police chief Guzman , especially as his vile methods seem to have permeated through the police force as evidenced by shooting innocent people , but , there has to be something more solid than this to get him out of his job,

RICARDOLITO sees no indications of malfeasance here. he might explain how this guy was going to buy a million dollar condo on the salary of a police chief.

What's up Dread, you know why ricardolito says those things is because he is one of those el presidente sympathizer, i just can believe people still blind to this madness.

dread, you are SPOT ON !

WTF Ric, you see a $900K apt reasonable for Guzman Fermin? Unless he (the Chief) comes from old money, it would be impossible for him to aquire this type of luxury (legally).

Is Agosto Figueroa's offer of $30 million for Guzman Fermin's head still vaild? Perhaps the "hitman" that collects that reward money can buy a similar luxury apt, or better yet, be the neighbor of the Guzman Fermin family in the same building !

Guzman Fermin is a SNAKE. His past is proof of that ! HE needs to be removed and replaced, the sooner the better. Hopefully his replacement will be a more honorable man.

ricardolito is a presidential sympathiser, and that is ok, provided he can explain why the president has not SET THE TONE regarding the most egregious problem facing the country, CORRUPTION, at all levels. how on earth a police officer can afford a million dollar condo is an issue that needs some serious ventilation. after all, we are not discussing a million pesos. welcome back, brootto

At any event, it is obvious the chief of police was acting as an undercover agent.

I call upon the members of " PLUS BRIGADES " to shoot out all the minuses.

By tomorrow all the minuses assigned to ricardilito should be ereased !

Dreadlocks ,,the question of where he could possibly get the money on his salary is another issue ..he actually did not buy the unit . If we could follow the money trail on many officials , I am sure we would find many bad things ,,that I would never deny .

Juango ..with respect ,I think you need to read my posting more clearly . I have absolutely no time for this Chief of Police but if you are going to nail him ,it will not be on anything in this article ..That is all I said and I stand by it .
There are so many officials and politicians who seem to have made a lot of money in the past decade or so from other sources than their salaries and I am sure much of it is from dishonorable activities ,,and I include tax evasion in that , But to nail these people you must have some good evidence and that is what is lacking here.

Sorry Ric, I must have read what you wrote with zero comprehension:

you wrote .."but what did the police chief do wrong here . he played golf with a man who was considered to be respectable , he was to buy an apartment for $ 900,000 which seems a reasonable , if not extravagant price and he provided the Spaniard with a former police officer for security of the building."

I did reread your post several times, and what you wrote is not very clear (to me), as you seem to contradict yourself. Regardless, I withdraw my first comment......

WONDER IF HE ALSO HAS MONEY IN THE FLORIDA CONDO MARKET?.
DON'T KNOW HOW CLEAN THIS GUY CAN BE IT SEEMS TO ME HES A LITTLE BIT ON THE SADISTIC SIDE, BUT MAYBE THIS HAS TO BE ATTRIBUTED TO HIS LACK OF EDUCATION.

again, note the lack of proof. the statment is quantifiable, yet the president doesn't bother to quantify.

This article while not being incredibly incriminating does set off buzzers that this guy is extremely dirty and corrupt. Problem is he's the head of an extremely powerful government agency and has too many people under his command for almost anyone in the country to stop him. We need LF to step up and do what is right. Maybe some prodding from the international press would help. Anyone with even a 5th grade education can see this guy is in bed with drug dealers. Who knows how deep and how many but the connections stand out.
