Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo residents say president Leonel Fernandez will seek reelection and hold on to power, and affirm that it’s unusual that no one knows who put up a huge and controversial billboard in which he thoughtfully gazes toward the sun with the flag as a backdrop, and the word “destiny.”
Though the high resolution ad is located downtown in the corner of the avenues 27 de Febrero with Tiradentes, nobody knows who placed it.
Last week when asked about a possible reelection bid, Fernandez said “it’s the people who decide,” despite a Constitutional prohibition.
News source Clave Digital asked several residents if the billboard is the first step in Fernandez’s reelection bid. “What that shows is that the reelection is coming”, said Diogenes Núñez.
For Pedro Severino the President is the country’s only option which guarantees the future well-being. “He’s the only one, and as since he’s the only one, he’s the destiny.”
Whereas Ramon Flores said fernandez seeks reelection because the ruling PLD party doesn’t have another possible Presidential candidate for the 2012 contest.
But when asked about the unusual and expensive billboard, the chief executive only said that he’s unaware of whom might be behind it.

Here's the plan:
LF tries to get the Constitution changed AGAIN (and he will continue to change it at will). If by some long shot he is unable to get the support he needs to do so, Margarita will be set up as the puppet candidate. When she wins ( and she will easily defeat whatever loser the PRD puts up as their choice) LF will be pulling the strings until he runs again in 2016.
More importantly, this means we are doomed to being subject to the governance of a man who does not care what happens to his country. As long as he gets his world wide photo ops he will be content to see us continue to go down the toilet.

Danilo thinks that with the power of those elected to congress he will now defeat Leonel. The billboards are just signs of this struggle. Danilo knows that if Leonel pulls anti-constitutional measures that permit the President as candidate, he will have no much of a chance in the political arena. Danilo uses "perredeism" methods, while Leonel use's "balaguerism". In the meantime, those disciplined "boschist" leaders have very little chance to emerge in this money-tag-war controversy. Just hope and pray that democracy survive the personal and egotistic hunger for power, without considering that they are supposed to serve the People and Quisqueya.

The Constitution should not change to accomodate Presidential Elections. The best thing that could happen to the country is to continue the path to progress, strong institutions, law enforcing against corruption and drug dealings and seeking to include everyone, no matter who the People legally and constitutionally elect as President. Just make sure that every candidate complies with the Constitution and the laws. Any way, the People means nothing for the parties. The parties are the like little republics because the People don't have anything, nor even a Homeland, since the State is the ultimate power, Quisqueya just lay there without defense and unable to take care of her poor.

Hes frustrated because he hasnt been able to find an autographed copy of his hero pals latest edition of '' bathroom humor by Blutarsky ' at the dollar strore. Our latest Anthony Bourdain has just returned from his all inclusive 3 day casa marina adventure with his yellow adventure live strong bracelet , and even though the fear of restless natives on motoconchos kept him locked in at the pool side buffet for his entire stay (save a Mels tour side trip to Ocean world ), he still got a pretty good view of the island from his economy window seat at 5000 feet over the island to where he is now qualified enough to have is own segment on the travel channel .
But like usual amigo , your correct . These people dont like to change thier underwear let alone a radio station or a slad dressing ..

Leonel has not seen him since and even had the b to try to have another candidate to run for the senate seat in the providence of Bani, the same thing happen to Charlie Mariote were Leonel as well wanted to have another candidate run for that post. I voted for Leonel three times but if he try to run again in 2012. I will put him in the dog house.

@Dreadlocks, I agree with you. It kind of remind me of some people that refuse to try something new because they believe that theirs are better. EXample: Always eat platano, yuca, chicken, etc, but refuse to each different dishes like chinese, central american, etc. It gets annoying, and i hate eating repititive plates. But yeah it is the same attitude that the people in DR have when it comes to electing presidents and stuff. How can you expect them to move forward?

sadly, Perez, Dominicans cannot be accused of being adventurous. they are firm believers in the status quo. which is why everybody copies everybody else. every bachata band has the same composition of instruments. same for the merengue. the guayo, the alto sax, a keyboard, and percussion. very little variation, because the first one worked. i took a lady of some substance to an evening meal once, and, at the end, the waiter suggested a dessert. she asked if they had flan. the guy said yes, but that he also had a great butterscotch cheesecake. well, she ended up with the flan, a far inferior product, because she simply refused to put the cheesecake to her lips. she knew that the flan was pleasant, so why forsake a good thing?
