Sabana Iglesia, Dominican Republic.- The Sabana Iglesia City Council passed a resolution declaring persona non grata two drug dealers and expelled them from the community.
Pablo Batista, mayor of the Santiago province town called the resolution unprecedented and that Sabana Iglesia has been the country’s only City Council to adopt a measure of that magnitude.
He said since he became mayor in 2007 community and religious leaders, neighborhood organizations and other institutions began an aggressive campaign against drug trafficking and consumption, and warned 30 pushers to halt their activities or leave, because the municipal authorities and the community were ready to free themselves of that evil.
The official said the two who didn’t heed their warning were declared non grata by Resolution and expelled from the community.
But Batista affirms that the municipality’s drug pushers are now National Police agents whose names hid didn’t reveal, and fears for his and his family’s safety after his denunciation. “I must warn that in the event of any physical aggression against me or a member of my family, I have written a document where I explain this and many more things blaming three people if something happens to me.”
