S. Felix, M. Pelaez face the judge Claribel Nivar Arias.
Santo Domingo.- The start of the first formal hearing in the case against the nine codefendants who allegedly form part of Jose Figueroa Agosto’s criminal network was delayed for several minutes awaiting the arrival of lawyer defending Madeline Bernard, and when Sobeida Felix requested to go to the bathroom.
When National District 2nd Instruction Court judge Claribel Nivar asked Bernard where her lawyer was, she responded “he’s on the way,” for which she recessed for five minutes until Miguel de la Rosa arrived at 10:40 a.m., but again delayed the proceeding when Felix had left to go to the bathroom.
Bernard is the widow of Police colonel Jose Amado González, who was gunned down on December 24, one of at least four gangland murders which astounded the country.
Judge Nivar warned that order in the Court will be respected, and threatened to send those in contempt to spend 24 hours in jail.

Lawyers don't show up for trials.
Defendents stay in their cells because they feel like it.
The Bani trial takes more than two years to go to court.
Judges take time off during trials.
Bail is granted to suspects who are high risks to flee the country.
The DA's office can't figure out who leaked a sex tape of Agosto.
Exactly what does work well in our legal system? Not well for the criminals, well for the pueblo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought when someone is encarcerated here there are issued prison clothing...Sobeida seems to be getting Royal treatment in prison since she appears in court with full make-up, hair all done and wearing nice clothes behind that bullet-proof vest!
You don't see female prisoners who commit felony crimes showing up in court like that in the States, do you?
She is obviously getting preferential treatment in prison and she doesn't seem to be losing any sleep either! What a disgrace!

Anyone that can afford it gets preferential treatment.
Cell phones, hookers, weekend trips outside the prison are all available for the right price.

First of all regarding US courtrooms for all the morons that don't have a clue.
Under the presumption of innocenence a defendant cannot predjudice a trial with prison clothing because they have not been found guilty.
These are defendants and have technically not been found guilty. They are being held in Jail without bond. That is why there is a trial and that is why they are in civilian clothing. What a bunch of stupid morons you show to be by not understanding basic courtroom procedureal protocol.

avi8or....you are wrong , when you go to prison you basically get nothing and in the prisons there is a market for everything but everyone wears their own clothes..maybe except for the most desperately poor. Not many prisoners eat the prison food , and things like mattresses, cell phones , batteries and various comforts are for sale in the prison system . It is important to have family and friends bring essentials to you in the twice a week visits ..There are various accounts on the internet of prison life in the DR where overcrowding is appalling ,,,la Romana prison was built for about 85 people and now has more than 380.

yes but I always read that article with a grain of salt ..but even if 90% correct , it is a gruesome picture that is painted of prisons ...luckily it did not dwell on the non consensual sex
