Santo Domingo.- A speeding 18 wheel truck carrying garbage to the landfill at Duquesa slammed into a group of people on Tuesday morning, killing at least three bystanders in the populated barrio Villas Agricolas, in Santo Domingo, local media report.
In the wake of the tragedy a large crowd gathered to protest the way the drivers speed within the center of the National District, and warned the mayor Roberto Salcedo that they’ll block trucks from passing through their neighborhood by torching tires.
The driver of the truck, whose name wasn’t provided, reportedly surrendered to Police and is being questioned. The truck had just loaded the trash from a halfway deposit in the sector and was headed to the landfill.
Isidro Simen, 36 and Alex Figueroa, 33, are among the dead, the news source CDN El Caribe said.

no doubt the murderous union leader in parliament will rally his truck drivers to run over anyone who protests about their reckless driving ,,the truck drivers and the bus drivers run a very close race for the most completely irresponsible driving

really wish some one has the balls to face these drivers.
every one here knows what they do.
sorry i have to sink too this level but enough is enough. lynch a few of them let them hang along the roadside for the other drivers to see.

Most of those drivers are inexperienced, ignorant and forget that they are hauling tons of cargo behind them! They know they can't STOP ON A DIME, especially operating rigs that can't even legally pass a motor vehicle inspection! Vehicles that are definitely OVERLOADED and constantly causing accidents with blowouts, broken axles and loss of brakes! There needs to be some type of REGULATION for these particular vehicles, especially those trucks that come out of Puerto Plata towards Navarette OVERLOADED with grain that cause NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS...most of them can barely make it up the hills leading to the tunnel because they are so OVERWEIGHT and in poor condition!!! If I can see things like this happen on a daily basis, I imagine politicians and local gov't officials can see it also and do nothing about it, until one of those trucks unfortunately kills or seriously injures some member of their family!
