Santo Domingo.- Hurricane Earl spared the Dominican Republic and will pass around 225 kilometers northwest of the Atlantic coast town Cabrera, while several eastern and northwest regions remain under a flash flood warning awaiting for Tropical Storm Fiona.

Emergency Operations Center (COE) director Juan Manuel Méndez said strong winds and tidal surges flooded 54 houses which forced the evacuation of 270 people in Samaná and Maria Trinidad Sanchez, and taken to some of the area’s 250 shelters.

Méndez said the strong winds downed trees and blocked roads and forced the evacuation of families in the northeast community El Valle, Samana, while the strong surges forced 50 families to leave their homes in the community Boba, Maria Trinidad Sanchez.

He said flood warnings are still in effect for the country’s northern and eastern coasts, as Earl causes tropical storm conditions from La Romana and Samaná to Cabo Engaño and Saona Island, in La Altagracia.

not a single drop of rain in Bayahibe or la Romana..not even a strong wind . Hope we are not going to have "boy that cried wolf" syndrome from the weather people because if they make too many bad predictions no one will get ready when the real problem storms are here .
It does not seem too long ago when we read here that this year would be a very bad one for hurricanes ..but , although tempting the devil, all we have had so far this season are some very good rains .

The country is lucky this time. I hope it is for the rest of the season, since the government only acts as if they are helping the people while the media is around.
