SANTO DOMINGO. - The deputy Luis (Luisin) Jiménez made his congressional debut today by accusing journalists of being responsible for their bad image among the population.

He said the Chamber should begin a process to morally defend the deputies. "It’s not right that being so many honorable professionals, the journalists often without topics, often indignant because we didn’t approve a project that perhaps interested them launch attacks against the members of the Chamber, who are defenseless.”

The new legislator, taking a turn in a Chamber of Deputies session, accused the journalists of denouncing the handout of money to approve a bill, but don’t reveal who received it or who gave it, noting that the deputies are “bandits and charlatans."

Jimenez, elected in the ticket of a handful of minority parties allied with the ruling PLD, said the journalists “ruthlessly” attack the deputies without evidence when they don’t have topics for their programs.

That’s because the Chamber of Deputies in his view hasn’t created commissions to confront what he called "merciless attacks" against the “distinguished” members of the Chamber, and more than 90 percent of which are unfounded. "It’s understood that each deputy has a personal prestige in terms in their community, and when the journalists describe the set of the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate and Congress they do so in contemptuous terms, because no one has confronted them."

Yes I think that you need to have some evidence before you start attacking people and just hoping some things you say or write may be a little correct ..so in that respect he is right .I think it is a good idea for journalists or writers to ask a few questions first or do some good research ...far more professional.
On the other hand I would not like to see any one trying to block general probing and questioning about subjects ...especially where public officers are involved.

Oh Lord, give me strength.

You morons do a better job of making yourselves look like ill educated, pathologically corrupt pieces of shit than the journalists.

You do not know what honorable means, dim wit.

And you wonder why... Get an education, morals, integrity and do something for the people you supposedly represent.

Santiago prosecutor Jenny Reynoso confirmed Tuesday that the Assistant DA who requested the release of the accused in the more than RD$100 million Customs Agency fraud has a son who works in that entity.

As an elected public official you should be working for the people not yourselves and your friends. If something is published which is not correct show the proof. These people who complain about the media are typically the corrupt ones the media shows as being so to the public. If you have nothing to hide don't be so angry.

Not that any of this matters anyhow our justice system is a complete joke for anyone with the money to pay bribes or knows someone high in authority. Look at the head of our police department. He hands out get out of jail free cards to notorious drug dealers and buys properties from them. This is yet another attempt to bully the press and should not be tolerated.

Veronica...are you suggesting that the press can print completely false accusations and then it is up to the accused to prove it wrong ,,,that seems upside down to me .
In the Santiago case , the Assistant DA who supported the change of conditions should have declared her situation and been stood down from the case .

A free press is a foundation of liberty. If these politicians feel slandered by the media then they have the opportunity to bring them to court or present their case to the public However, that will not happen, lest they expose themselves for what they really are. Those who complain the most or are the loudest usually have something to hide.

This guy isn't serious is he. Does he even understand the concept of democracy and a free press. Does he really think we should feel sorry for those defenseless distinguished politicians in a country where the word corruption is more often heard with the word politician than not? Maybe he thinks we should just go back to the days of Trujillo when journalists were killed for opening their mouths. Its scary to think that such small minds can be given so much power...and in the u.s.a. the problems is as bad or worse because these same types of ignorant politicians gain office as puppets for special interests and actually have most of their statements scripted for them. at least here you can see them for what they are

I this guy for real? I propose all politicos open up to the people's scrutiny and see how many are actually honest. If this guy has nothing to hide then he should take the reporters to court and prove he is not what they are saying hes is, of course this will be a sharp double edge sword.

Every day we see new articles about corrupt politicians and I dont see many taking the reporters to court or opening up their finances. come on be real

Luisin Jimenez should know, he was or is an entertainer and TV comic himself. I think this imbecile and charlatan should stick to his mimics and impersonations, as his latest impersonation of a politician falls short and is really laughable.
