Santo Domingo.- Santiago prosecutor Jenny Reynoso confirmed Tuesday that the Assistant DA who requested the release of the accused in the more than RD$100 million Customs Agency fraud has a son who works in that entity.

The case uncovered early July is the latest in the seemingly endless scandals plaguing the Government.

Reynoso said the son of Santiago Court of Appeals official Vielka Calderón could be questioned in connection with the fraud, and criticized the change from the eight months of temporary incarceration ordered by the Permanent Attention Court to a RD$2 million bail for each of those involved in the alleged embezzlement.

The official interviewed in a meeting with Justice Minister Radhamés Jiménez, assistant prosecutors, Police chief Jose Polanco and DNCD president Rolando Rosado to coordinate the war on organized crime, said Calderón’s action is contrary to the Judiciary’s policy against corruption.

Jiménez immediately announced that Calderón will be called to explain her action in the major fraud case against former Customs sub-collector Adalberto Rosa Rosario; Miguel Angel Lazala and Gerard Estévez Peña, accused of embezzling more than 100 million pesos.

Organized crime

Reynoso said the case has all the characteristics of organized crime for which she doesn’t conceive that hundreds of people are currently in jail for minor offenses than those attributed to the accused.

The Santiago Appellate Court ruled for the defense, the Customs Agency and dthe Court’s Prosecutor, who agreed that it was an economic crime.

Another example of corruption in the government. This judge should be fully investigated for other criminal acts. His connection to the case and how he has handled it makes him suspect of retaining his position as a judge. Any criminal acts he is involved in he should be punished severely. Any police, military, or government official involved in corrupt activities should be forced to forfeit all properties and money and be sent to jail. This is only way we will ever rid ourselves of the corruption problems we have.

Why do we not here what the Assistant DA has got to say for herself ..I have asked here several times where the bail money goes to as it is not refundable as it is under bail conditions of many countries ..It has been suggested that it goes to some fund for police and court officials but I wonder if any one definitely knows .
And the reason why 85% of the prison population is in prison without any conviction is that they can not raise the bribe or bail money ...

I like this Jenny Reynoso, she is fearless. If people could be cloned, she would be a candidate. The country needs more models of her feistiness.

There is no will on the part of the government to follow up on any such obvious corruption. A judge orders 8 months detention and 3 weeks later the accused are out of "bail". Remember, they are accused of defrauding the government out of 800,000-1,000,000 RD per month, for years. The bail is just a small drop in the bucket.

Where is our "Zero Tolerance" president?

Without the will to bring about a change, there will never be a change. This is just another of the many, many examples of how the "good ole boys club" works.

former couple have a son Cameron, 31, who was sentenced to five years in jail for drug trafficking in April.
Douglas also has two children with his current wife Zeta-Jones, son Dylan, 10, and daughter Carys, seven. - Daily Mail
THIS COULD AND WOULD NOT HAPPEN IN THE DR.
