Santo Domingo. - Air Force colonel Manuel Peña Labourt testified yesterday that former Navy lieutenant Andres Tapia Balbuena had confessed that the also Navy lieutenant Edward Mayobanex Rodriguez Montero was the one who shot and killed the seven Colombians in Paya, Bani (south) in August, 2008.

That version was confirmed by the also accused Jorge Luis Chalas.

After cross examination however Rodriguez Montero’s lawyer rejected Peña Labourt’s version and the defense motioned to have his declarations stricken, arguing that they reveal a suspicious interest and speculation and

The defense also motioned to compare the testimony with that of Antinarcotics Agency financial director (DNCD) Julio Cesar Souffront, claiming alleged contradictions.

Hearsay evidence is not normally allowed in real courts of law but anyway if he is found guilty he will probably be retired on a pension and found another job in some official capacity like so many others in the services guilty of criminal acts!
