WASHINGTON. - Citizen Participation (PC) again denounced Friday that Dominican Republic’s Government lacks the political will to fight corruption and "to date the agencies responsible for prosecuting and penalizing this crime show few results,".

PC Council member Isidoro Santana slammed the government, this time in the U.S. capital, during the close of the Committee Meeting of Experts in the Pursuit Mechanism of to Inter-American Convention Against Corruption, held in the OAS in Washington since September 13.

Santana, speaking before international anti-corruption experts stressed that Dominican Republic’s main problems are the lack of a legal framework to regulates the sale of government properties and the granting of concessions, leaving a high margin of discretion, and for which is more vulnerable to corruption. “This is despite the fact that Congress has been debating a bill on concessions for more than three years.”

Santana reiterated the need to bolster prevention and investigation of privileges of all types, regarding payments that violate the law and the creation of legislation on the matter.

""WASHINGTON. - Citizen Participation (PC) again denounced Friday that Dominican Republic’s Government lacks the political will to fight corruption.....""

The answer is obvious:

Either the Govt is stupid enough does not know how to fight the corruptions...,
Or,
They know they can not fight the corruptions because they can not cut off their money machines.

A corrupt, greedy, and dishonest group of stupid people control everything here and they are willing to do whatever is necessary to keep it that way

A gentle push in the correct direction is needed. And if legislation doesn't move, well then how about difficulties with Visas to the US and Europe for families and friends? Not enough pressure you say, well how about making a few calls to Swiss banks and others for data? That last one might just do the trick. Just keep the pressure, and the carrots too. Very important for the subject to know that there's a good reward if he chooses correctly.

How about LF starts taking action as he said he would. How about if he doesn't put someone else in his place who will put an end to the corruption and go after all of those who have stolen from us for generations. I would propose a new president who will pass laws to confiscate all ill gotten assets from drugs and corruption and make some examples out of people. Take back some of these people and their family's property and money and put it back into the public system for proper use. This is the only way to fix the problem. Go after everyone involved take back the money and assets and put these people in jail for life. Spend the money on education and health for Dominicans so Dominicans can prosper on our own island instead of having very few who have everything by stealing and mainly foreigners owning the best businesses and land in our country. Give the country back to it's citizens!

Veronica you think like most of us, the the sad part of the story is that these freaking thives will do what is best for them AND NOT WHAT IS BEST FOR THE DR.

"Citizen Participation again denounced Friday that Dominican Republic’s Government lacks the political will to fight corruption "

As stated many times above, they do lack will, they lack intelligence. Just your everyday, garden variety, moron.

As sad as it is, DR should be run by a coalition government formed by 2 foreigners and one local.

Every government body with a budget should also be headed by a board with a majority of foreigners.

Much like trustees in bankruptcy run an insolvent company in the interest of its creditors.

The difference is DR is a country, not a company. But insolvent it is.

As VeronicaDR said, we should take our country back from foreigners. The new constitution does not even give us the right to use our public beaches, unless you pay to a capitalistic enterprise the appropriate fee to enter. What a country!!!

I think it is a serious mistake to blame the foreigners for the problems in the Dominican Republic.
Everything I see and read involves internal corruption from the ground up.

Something as basic as propane has been sold to the local public using a shady underhanded delivery system.

Forget about the electricity problems, it's a total joke.

Try importing anything into the country, be prepared to pay two or three times what it is worth, to get it to your destination.

Many in the police and military definitely can not be trusted.

Look at the senators asking for increases in their pay when they are grossly overpaid for the little they do, while the average citizen barely can survive.

These are not problems created by foreigners.

The majority of the time foreigners are in many ways helping the country and the people stay above water.

Chase them out and you will quickly join Haiti as the poorest place in the region.
