Santo Domingo.- The nonprofit group Citizen Participation (CP) today submitted before the Supreme Court (SCJ) a Constitutional challenge to Law 5796 on the deputies and senators open tax exemptions to import vehicles.

The document was filed Thursday morning by CP executives Carlos Pimentel and Luis Scheker Ortiz, who affirmed that that Law violates the Constitution, which penalizes a person for taking public funds or using their government post to obtain economic benefits for themselves or for third parties.

Ortiz said PC requests the Supreme Court to strike down the exemptions he called an irrational and disproportionate privilege for the lawmakers, and which cause billions of pesos in losses for the Government. “Law 5796 must be declared null according to article six of the Constitution in effect, that stipulates that all persons and entities that exert public powers are subjected to the Constitution.”

Interviewed by the journalists after filing the document, Ortiz said PC will go to court whenever the laws are broken or when the authorities commit excesses and abuses, to eliminate them and bolster institutionalism and the state of Law.

I hope and pray they can do something.

But ALL the DR politicians are pathologically corrupt.

Get rid of the pork barrel funds while you are at it. They show NO transparency in where the money goes to.

Normally you would say that pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered however I found the exact opposite with regards to Dominican lawmakers.

Hey!!!
Aren't they entitled.........TO EVERYTHING THEY WANT?

This is a fine idea, however, I fear that it, as all other positive initiatives that have been proposed in the past, will come to nothing.

By the way, isn't it time for a government spokesperson to come the the support of our legislators and tell us how hard they work, or how dedicated they are, or some other BS?

It´s hopeless.

I think all productive people should move out, so the GNP would fall 80%, and they'd be left with nothing to steal.
