SANTO DOMINGO.- A fire charred most of the basement parking area of  the building MM located in the Mejía Ricart street between Lope de Vega and Lincoln avenues Thursday afternoon, panicking many in the sector upscale Piantini and causing a major traffic jam which hampered the arrival of the Santo Domingo Fire Department.

Eleven firefighting units of the flames under control by 4 p.m., several hours after a backup generator exploded in one of the building’s sublevels, according to reports.

Firefighters rescued a woman from one of the floors of the six story office building using a ladder.

A hardware store burned down in Santiago a few weeks ago... The fire fighters should have been able to save that building... They lack fire trucks and good hoses

By a coincidence , I was in the general area this afternoon and the fire trucks had their sirens blasting the air and when a decent person pulled over for the truck the public taxi drivers seized the opportunity to go forward and block the fire truck ...those drivers of public taxis are scum .

Once again, you are all missing the point, if you look to see the tenants of the building you will find a firm who was indicted for fraud on an archtechtural project, a firm as corrupt as the most corrpt in this country, only they happen to be enemies of the PLD, Enough said.

If the country had any leadership and there was no need for everyone to have generators the fire wouldn't have occurred. Now throw in the savage drivers, too many cars for the roads and often no water you've got a real catastrophy.
