La Romana, Dominican Republic.- A man killed two others Monday afternoon in the sector Villa Caleta, after they kidnapped his Chihuahua and held it for an unspecified ransom.
Johan Francisco Reyes, 20, and Miguel Francisco Castilla, 31, were shot and killed by Frank Brauer, 46, the dog’s owner.
Police spokesman Rubén Garcia said the fatal shooting occurred near Brauer’s residence in Villa Caleta, where the two men went to demand a ransom for the dog’s release.
According to the police report, Brauer got his pistol and shot both men several times.
Garcia said Brauer is being held prior to arraignment in La Romana, and that the bodies were taken to the morgue in the Francisco Gonzalvo hospital.

Typical Dominican response. This is way people do things in a lawless, inhuman society, not the way civilized people behave. Instead of shooting and killing them, how about holding a gun on them while calling the police. I just think this was a senseless killing over a dog. Now we have a dog without his owner, a owner without his freedom and two people without their lives.I just see this as senseless. He still ended up without his pet. So senseless.

In any other place I would agree that this was a senseless killing. You need to have a country of laws before you can expect justice. All we know for a fact is that the two are dead, but do we really know what happened in the immediate period before he shot them?

In this place it's getting harder and harder to distinguish between the cops and robbers. If Frank had "called the police" they would have locked the two up for one night, cut a deal with them to get a cut from any future ransom money, and sent them on their merry way. It is the same kind of deal the police make with the muggers in Mirador Sur Park. If Frank did in fact rid his neighborhood of these low lives, more power to him. The police wouldn't have helped. It's a shame he's being locked up.
